This standard is published as Part IV of the Equipment Maintainability Guidelines. Its purpose is to: - provide guidance for early consideration of testability issues in design and development; - help to determine effective test procedures as an integral part of use and maintenance. The Equipment Maintainability Guidelines series of standards are conceptually and in principle applicable to all types of equipment, however many of the techniques described are clearly more applicable to the fields of electrotechnical and electronics, where the application opportunities are greatest. For mechanical equipment, traditional diagnostic tests are still applicable, but advances in electronic measurement and monitoring devices herald that many improved diagnostic test equipment can now also be applied to mechanical parts and complex systems. The structural research of the diagnostic test device is very important to ensure its application in a wide range of fields. This standard provides reference for condition monitoring. Diagnostic test sets are closely related to the diagnostic testing concepts covered in this guidance and cannot and should not be separated. Of course, this does not mean that all condition monitoring should be part of this standard.
