This standard specifies the method for determining the flexural strength of dense and heat-insulating shaped refractory products by applying stress at a constant rate at room temperature. This method is mainly used for setting and firing refractory materials. If used in chemical bonded or tar bonded bricks, these articles are subject to some form of preheat treatment. The specific provisions of this preheating treatment are beyond the scope of this standard and must be agreed upon by relevant parties and indicated in the test report.
