Scope: This standard specifies the test method for determining the flexural strength of refractory materials by applying stress at a constant rate at room temperature. This method is applicable to both shaped and unshaped refractories. If used in chemical bonded or tar bonded bricks, these articles are subject to some form of prior heat treatment. The specific provisions of this pre-heat treatment are beyond the scope of this standard and need to be agreed by relevant parties and indicated in the test report.
