Scope

This standard applies to the acquisition of system and software products and services. Also applies to the supply, development, operation and maintenance of software products and software components of firmware, which may be performed internally or externally within an organization. The system definition needed to provide the environment for software products and services shall be included. This standard applies to both parties, and can be equally applied if the two parties are from the same organization. It covers from an informal agreement to a legally binding contract. This standard may be adopted by a single party as a self-improvement exercise. This standard is not intended for use in off-the-shelf software products unless it is included in a deliverable. This standard is written for acquirers of systems and software products and services, and also for suppliers, developers, operators, maintainers, managers, quality assurance managers and users of software products.
