1.2 Scope of application This standard applies to the acquisition of system and software products and services, to the supply, development, operation and maintenance of software products, and to the software part of firmware. This International Standard can be implemented both within an organization and externally. Includes those aspects of the system definition needed to provide an environment for software products and services. This standard applies to both the supplier and the purchaser, even if the parties are from the same organization; it applies to situations ranging from an informal agreement to a legally binding contract. This standard may be used by a single party as a self-improvement exercise. This standard does not prevent suppliers or developers of off-the-shelf software from using this standard. This standard applies to the demand side of system and software products and services, and to the suppliers, developers, operators, maintainers, managers, quality assurance managers and users of software products.
