This part of GB/T 15822 specifies the general rules for magnetic particle testing of ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic particle testing is mainly used to detect discontinuities in surface openings (especially cracks), and can also detect discontinuities near the surface, but its sensitivity decreases rapidly with depth. This standard specifies the surface preparation of the workpiece to be inspected, the magnetization technique, the requirements and application of the inspection medium, and the recording and interpretation of the results. Acceptance criteria are not specified. For magnetic particle testing of special items, additional requirements are specified by product standards. This section does not apply to the residual magnetism method.
