Scope: These test methods specify procedures for determining the effects of immersion on the physical properties of nonmetallic gasket materials after immersion in test fluids. Suitable for Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 and Type 7 materials described in GB/T 20671.1. These test methods do not apply to vulcanized rubber, the procedure for which is described in Test Method D471. Test samples are cut from either the gasket material or the final finished gasket. These test methods can also be used for pretreatment of multi-layer steel mat (MLS, Multi-Layer Steel) or interlayer gasket materials for adhesion testing according to test method D3359. Pretreatment is only a prelude to the cohesion test. Other physical property tests described in this standard are not applicable to MLS or intermetallic gasket materials.
