- This standard establishes general rules for the specific meanings assigned to certain visual, auditory and tactile signs, the purpose of which is to: - improve the safety of people, property and/or the environment through the safe monitoring or safe operation of equipment or processes; security. —— Facilitate normal monitoring and maintenance of equipment or process. — Facilitate rapid identification of control conditions and operating device locations.
