Scope

This standard establishes a classification system for sealed radioactive sources based on test performance, and specifies the general requirements, performance tests, product inspections, marks and certificates of sources. This standard provides manufacturers of sealed radioactive sources with a series of inspections to evaluate the safety of their products in use, and it is also convenient for users to choose the type of radioactive source that meets the requirements for use, especially for the prevention of exposure to ionizing radiation caused by leakage of radioactive substances. can provide assistance in selecting the type of radioactive source for the site. This standard may also provide guidance to regulatory authorities. These inspections are divided into several groups, including, for example, exposure to abnormally high and low temperature inspections and various mechanical inspections. Each test applies to a different degree of rigor. Whether the test result is passed depends on whether the contents of the sealed radioactive source leak. Note 1: Refer to GB/T 15849--1995 for leak test methods. Table 4 gives each application and recommended inspection level for the main typical uses of sealed radioactive sources. Broadly speaking, these inspections are the minimum requirements for various uses, and the factors to be considered when using them under some particularly severe conditions are listed in 4.2. Note 2: Producers and inspection agencies should formulate quality assurance programs respectively according to GB/T l9001--2000. This standard is not classified by the design of the source, the method of manufacture, or the calibration method of emitting radiation. This standard does not cover radioactive materials (including sealed sources) and fuel elements in nuclear reactors.
