- This standard establishes a classification system for sealed radioactive sources based on test performance, and specifies the source performance, requirements, inspection methods, identification and certificates, etc. This standard provides a series of inspections for producers of sealed radioactive sources to evaluate the safety of their products in use, and it is also convenient for users to choose the type of radioactive source that meets the requirements for use, especially for the prevention of exposure to ionizing radiation caused by leakage of radioactive substances. can provide assistance in selecting the type of radioactive source for the site. This standard may also provide guidance to regulatory authorities. These inspections are divided into several groups, including, for example, exposure to abnormally high and low temperature inspections and various mechanical inspections. Each test applies to a different degree of rigor. Whether the test result is passed or not depends on whether the radioactive source is sealed and the contents are leaked. Table 4 gives the level of inspection recommended for each application and recommendation for sealed radioactive sources, the main typical uses. In a broad sense, these tests are the minimum requirements for various uses, and the factors to be considered when used under some particularly harsh conditions (see Appendix C) are listed in 4.2. This standard is not classified by the design of the source, the method of manufacture, or the calibration method of emitting radiation. This standard does not cover radioactive materials (including sealed sources) and fuel elements in nuclear reactors.
