Scope: This standard specifies the qualification and certification of non-destructive testing (NDT) personnel. This standard applies to one or more of the following methods: a) acoustic emission testing; b) eddy current testing; c) infrared thermal imaging testing; d) leak testing (excluding hydrostatic testing); e) magnetic particle testing; g) radiographic testing; h) strain testing; i) ultrasonic testing. j) Visual inspection (including direct visual inspection and visual inspection when applying other non-destructive testing methods). Certification to this standard provides evidence of the general competence of NDT operators. But this does not represent authorization to operate, as that is the employer's responsibility - certified employees may need to supplement the employer's expertise on characteristics such as equipment, NDT process procedures, raw materials and products. When required by regulations and specifications, the operation authorization is issued by the employer according to the quality process regulations, which stipulates the professional training and examinations required by the employer to verify that the licensee understands the industrial norms, standards, NDT process regulations, equipment and acceptance criteria and other related knowledge. The system specified in this standard is also applicable to other NDT methods with independent certification procedures.
