Scope
This part of GB/T 8923 specifies a series of steel surface corrosion grades and treatment grades (see Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 respectively). The various grades are defined jointly by the text description and the representative model photos, which are typical examples that conform to the text description. This standard applies to hot-rolled steel surfaces prepared prior to the application of paint by blast cleaning, hand and power tool cleaning, and flame cleaning, although it is difficult to obtain comparable results with these methods. Essentially, these methods are suitable for hot rolled steel, however, these methods, especially the blast cleaning method, are also suitable for cold rolled steel of sufficient thickness to resist deformation caused by abrasive impact or power tool cleaning. This standard also applies to steel surfaces to which residual coatings and other foreign impurities (see Note 1 in 3.1) are firmly attached in addition to residual scale. This section uses the visual appearance of steel to indicate its surface cleanliness. In most cases this is sufficient, but for coatings which are likely to be exposed to harsh environments such as water immersion and continuous condensation, consideration should be given to physical and chemical methods of detection of corrosion on visually clean surfaces. For soluble salts and other invisible pollutants, see the provisions of each part of ISO 8502 for specific detection methods. The characteristics of surface roughness should also refer to the provisions of ISO 8503.
