Scope

This standard specifies CPFs based on IEC 61784-1, IEC 61784-2 (CP 3/1, CP 3/2, CP 3/4, CP 3/5 and CP 3/6) and IEC 61158 Type 3 and Type 10 3's secure communication layer (services and protocols), and identifies that the functional safety communication principles defined in IEC 61784-3 are relevant to the secure communication layer in this standard. This standard defines a mechanism for the transmission of safety-related messages between participants in a distributed network using fieldbus technology, which complies with the requirements of the IEC 61508 series of standards for functional safety. These mechanisms can be used in various industrial applications such as process control, manufacturing automation and machinery. This standard provides guidance for developers and evaluators of devices and systems conforming to this standard.
