1.1 This specification covers outside diameter controlled, pressure rated, metric-sized and inch-sized black or yellow crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) pipe made in pipe dimension ratios ranging from 6 to 17. Included are requirements and test methods for material, workmanship, dimensions, burst pressure, hydrostatic sustained pressure, stabilizer functionality, bent-pipe hydrostatic pressure, degree of crosslinking, chemical resistance, and minimum operating temperature. Requirements for pipe markings are also given. The pipe covered by this specification is intended for pressure or non-pressure oil and gas producing applications, such as conveying oil, dry or wet gas, gas gathering, multiphase fluids, and non-potable oilfield water. This specification does not cover piping for gas distribution applications. 1.2 This specification also includes requirements for joints made between PEX pipe and polyethylene electrofusion fittings (specified in Specifications F1055 or F3373). Fittings to be used with PEX pipe manufactured to this Specification are in Specification F2829/F2829M. Installation considerations are in Appendix X3. 1.3 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes, and appendixes, which provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the specification. 1.4 Units—The values stated in either SI units or inchpound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard. NOTE 1—Metric sized (SI units) pipe should only be joined with corresponding metric sized fittings, and inch sized pipe should only be joined with corresponding inch sized fittings. Inch sized fittings should not be used for metric sized pipe, and metric sized fittings should not be used for IPS inch sized pipe. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This test method describes the general requirements for evaluating the long-term, chlorinated water, oxidative resistance of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipe or tubing produced in accordance with PEX specifications, such as Specification F876 or Specification F2788/F2788M by exposure to hot, chlorinated water. This test method outlines the requirements of a pressurized flow-through test system, typical test pressures, test-fluid characteristics, failure type, and data analysis. NOTE 1—Other known disinfecting systems (chlorine dioxide, ozone, and chloramines) are also used for protection of potable water. Freechlorine is the most common disinfectant in use today. A PPI research project examined the relative aggressiveness of free chlorine and chloramines on PEX pipes, both at the same 4.0 ppm concentration and the same test temperatures. The results of the testing showed pipe failure times approximately 40% longer when tested with chloramines compared to testing with free chlorine, at the tested conditions. Based on these results, the data suggests that chloramines are less aggressive than free chlorine to PEX pipes. 1.2 Guidelines and requirements for test temperatures, test hoop stresses, and other test criteria have been established by prior testing of PEX pipe or tubing produced by the three most common commercial methods of cross-linking: silane, peroxide, and electron-beam (see Note 2). Other related system components that typically appear in a PEX hot-and-cold water distribution system can be evaluated with the PEX pipe or tubing. When testing PEX pipe or tubing and fittings as a system, it is recommended that the anticipated end-use fitting type(s) and material(s) be included in the test circuit since it is known that some fitting types and materials can impact failure times. Specimens used shall be representative of the piping product(s) and material(s) under investigation. NOTE 2—The procedures described in this test method (with some modifications of test temperatures or stresses, or both) have been used to evaluate pipes manufactured from polybutylene (PB), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), multilayer (polymer-metal composite), copper, and stainless steel. 1.3 This test method is applicable to PEX pipe or tubing and systems used for transport of potable water containing freechlorine for disinfecting purposes. The oxidizing potential of the test-fluid specified in this test method exceeds that typically found in potable water systems across the United States. 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Section 12, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

1.1 This terminology is a compilation of definitions of technical terms used in the plastic piping industry. Terms that are generally understood or adequately defined in other readily available sources are not included. 1.2 When a term is used in an ASTM document for which Committee F17 is responsible it is included only when judged, after review, by Subcommittee F17.91 to be a generally usable term. 1.3 Definitions that are identical to those published by other ASTM committees or other standards organizations are identified with the committee number (for example, D20) or with the abbreviation of the name of the organization (for example, IUPAC International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry). 1.4 A definition is a single sentence with additional information included in notes. 1.5 Definitions are followed by the committee responsible for the standard(s) (for example, [F17.26]) and standard numbers(s) in which they are used (for example, F714). 1.6 Abbreviated Terminology: 1.6.1 Abbreviated terminology is intended to provide uniform contractions of terms relating to plastic piping that have evolved through widespread common usage. The compilation in this standard has been prepared to avoid the occurrence of more than one abbreviated term for a given plastics piping term and to avoid multiple meanings for abbreviated terms. 1.6.2 The abbreviated terminology and descriptions in this standard are intended to be consistent with usage in plastics piping and the standards under F17 jurisdiction. Other ASTM Committees may assign a different word-phrase description to the same abbreviated terminology. In such cases, the abbreviated terms in this standard shall apply to usage in F17 standards, or if widespread misunderstanding could result from conflicting abbreviated terminology descriptions, the abbreviated terminology for the word-phrase shall not be used in F17 standards. 1.6.3 Acronyms and Initialisms—A word formed from the letters or parts of words of a longer word-phrase, usually from the initial letters or parts of the words. An Acronym is pronounced as a word, for example radar, for radio detection and ranging. An Initialism is pronounced as a series of letters, for example DOT for Department of Transportation. 1.6.4 The Acronym or Initialism description is the origin word-phrase for the Acronym or Initialism, not a definition. 1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This guide describes the specification and reconstruction of in-situ pipelines and conduits 2 in. to 63 in. (50 mm to 1600 mm) diameter) by the pulled-in-place installation, into an existing conduit, of circular, radially reduced, ShapeMemory-Polymer Tubular (SMPT) that after installation, reexpands (by “memory”) to press against the ID of the host pipe, thus coupling the interior pipe, by friction fit, as reinforcement to the host pipe. The added SMPT pipe wall restores leak tightness and adds its strength to the host pipe (Dual-Wall Composite-Pipe). It becomes a continuous compressed-fit dual-wall pipeline. Depending upon the SMPT compound used, the re-constructed pipelines or conduits are suitable for pressure and nonpressure pipeline applications such as process piping, raw and treated water transmission, water pipe systems, forced-mains, industrial and oil-patch gathering and transmission pipelines, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and culverts. NOTE 1— This standard guide covers circular SMPT tubulars which are radially reduced by mechanical means at the time of installation. This guide does not address “liners” that at the time of manufacture are deformed (folded) into U-shape, C-shape, H-shape, or other such configurations. This guide refers to dual-wall meaning two layers of pipe co-joined in the field, which is different from dual-wall factory-made co-extruded pipe or corrugated pipe. This guide does not provide a complete design basis covering the many variables required for design and construction of this field fabricated product; the advice of professional contractors and/or registered professional engineers may be incorporated as an adjunct to this guide. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. NOTE 2—There are no ISO standards covering the primary subject matter of this guide. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
