This standard together with IEC 62087-1 to IEC 62087-3 and IEC 62087-5 to IEC 62087-6 cancels and replaces IEC 62087:2011. This International Standard constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes significant technical changes with respect to Clause 7 of IEC 62087:2011. The changes include fundamental and extensive revisions to cover video recorders such as DVD and BD types as well as recorders with removable solid state memory. Clause 7 has been revised in its entirety.

IEC 62087-2:2015(E) specifies signals and media used in determination of the power consumption of audio, video, and related equipment, such as television sets and computer monitors. It also specifies signals for determining the peak luminance ratio that is sometimes associated with television power consumption measurement programs. In addition, this part specifies equipment, interfaces, and accuracy related to signal generation. This first edition of IEC 62087-2 together with IEC 62087-1 and IEC 62087-3 to IEC 62087-6 cancels and replaces IEC 62087:2011 in its entirety. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to Clause 11 of IEC 62087:2011. The signals included on the discs are now numbered generically, rather than being based on the subclause numbers within the text of the television test method. Video test patterns used to determine the peak luminance ratio are now included on the discs. Audio test signals are specified. The box and outline video signal has been added. This publication is available in CD-ROM format only. The 5-disc package contains the publication on a CD and video files on two DVDs and two Blu-ray™ Discs.

The various modes of operation which are relevant for measuring power consumption are defined. This first edition of IEC 62087-6 cancels and replaces Clause 9 of IEC 62087:2011. This standard together with IEC 62087-1 to IEC 62087-5 cancels and replaces IEC 62087:2011. This International Standard constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to Clause 9 of IEC 62087:2011. The definition of the input signal is changed. The output power measurement of amplifiers is changed. The measurement method for compact audio systems including loudspeakers is added. Methods for measuring On-decoding, idle and auto power down functions are added. Portions of the document related to general measuring conditions and procedures are now contained in IEC 62087-1:2015. Portions of the document related to signals and media are now in IEC 62087-2:2015. The titles have changed in order to comply with the current directives and to accommodate the new multipart structure of IEC 62087.

1.1 These recommendations apply to automatic gain control circuits (AGC-circuits) used for different purposes in sound systems. 1.2 These recommendations include devices which have limiting and/or compressing properties with respect to the envelope of the input signal. a) Limiting action is mainly used as a safeguard to prevent overloading of equipment such as tape recorders, power amplifiers, transmitters, etc. b) Compression is used to reduce the dynamic range of speech and music programmes. The object of introducing compression is to match the dynamic range of the programme material to the available signal-to-noise ratio of the succeeding transmission chain or to the difference in level between the programme sound level allowed and the ambient noise level in the surroundings where the programme is radiated. Compression is also used to achieve special effects when reproducing sound programmes. 1.3 These recommendations do not include : a) expanders, as such devices for the time being are only used in highly specialized professional equipment. The definitions in this recommendation can, however, be extended to also include such devices. b) devices in which the gain in a sound channel is controlled, not by the signal fed through the channel but from an external source, e. g. when the gain in a paging channel is varied in accordance with the ambient noise level in the listening area or for "override limiters" where the gain in a music channel is reduced when the announcer speaks. The characteristics of such devices may be specified and measured in a similar way. c) clipping devices, as such devices are non-linear devices used for cutting off the peaks above a certain level; such devices differ basically from limiters and compressors which, in a steady state,preserve the waveform of the input signal.
