What is ISO 17059- Extraction of oil and preparation of methyl esters of triglyceride fatty acids about? ISO 17059 discusses oilseeds. ISO 17059 is an international standard on the extraction of oil and preparation of methyl esters of triglyceride fatty acids that ensures to reduce the time required for the determination of oil contents. ISO 17059 specifies a rapid method for extraction of oil and for preparation of the methyl esters of fatty acids. The methyl esters thus obtained can be used for gas chromatography. ISO 17059 is applicable to the following oilseeds: rape and mustard with low erucic acid content (< 2 %), sunflower, soya beans, linseed. Note: Applying this rapid method to high erucic acid content rapeseed leads to an overestimation of erucic acid content by approximately a mass fraction of 1 %. This difference was observed in Reference [6] and could be due to the partial extraction of the oil from the sample (yield around 70 %). The high content of erucic acid in triglycerides could increase their solubility in hexane because of the lipophilic effect of the carbon long-chain (C22). However, as this effect was not checked on a large set of high erucic rapeseed samples, it is not appropriate to apply a correction factor to the erucic acid content when analyzing high erucic acid rapeseed. What is ISO 9167- Determination of glucosinolates content in rapeseed and rapeseed meals about? ISO 9167 discusses rapeseed and rapeseed meals. ISO 9167 is an international standard on the determination of glucosinolates content in rapeseed and rapeseed meals using high-performance liquid chromatography to ensure the prevention of various health hazards. ISO 9167 specifies a method for the determination of the individual glucosinolates content in rapeseed and rapeseed meals using high-performance liquid chromatography with gradient elution. ISO 9167 specifies a method using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with gradient elution as a reference method. For the isocratic mode, the choice of the internal standard, the chromatographic conditions, and the separation results are different from the reference method.
