This International Standard specifies a vibration test code for determining, efficiently and under standardized conditions, the magnitude of vibration at the handles of portable hand-held, internal-combustion-engine-powered forestry machines such as chain-saws, brush-cutters and grass-trimmers. The code is applicable to manufacturer's product controls as well as type tests. It is intended that the results obtained will be able to be used to compare different machines or different models of the same type of machine. Although the magnitudes measured are obtained in an artificial operation, they nevertheless give an indication of the values to be found in a real work situation.

This part of ISO 11681 deals with the significant hazards and specifies safety requirements and their verification for design and construction of portable combustion-engine, hand-held chain-saws, designed only for use by one operator and intended for forest work. It describes methods for the elimination or reduction of hazards arising from their use. In addition it specifies the type of information on safe working practices to be provided by the manufacturer. It deals with all significant hazards. It does not cover the hazard from kickback for machines with an engine displacement over 80 cm. The environmental aspects, except for noise, have not been considered. Chain-saws covered by this part of ISO 11681 are designed for use by persons having read and understood the safety requirements in the instruction handbook and using the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The chain-saws covered are designed only to be operated with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle. This part of ISO 11681 is not applicable to chain-saws which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document.

It establishes definitions and specifies machine conditions for calculations and tests. This document applies to crawler mounted machines such as hydraulic excavators as defined in SAE J1057 and iSO 7135, and knuckle boom log loaders as defined in SAE J1209 and SAE J2055. This document also applies to certain forestry equipment defined in sAE J1209 and ISO 6814 that have crawler mountings such as delimbers, feller bunchers, harvesters, and processors. Included in the definition of hydraulic excavators are also front shovel, clamshell, and telescoping boom excavators. The purpose of this document is to establish a consistent, repeatable means of determining and specifying the travel performance for the types of equipment contained therein.

This International Standard establishes a consistent, reproducible means of evaluating the force-deflection characteristics of roll-over protective structures (ROPS) on self-propelled forestry machines under static loading, and prescribes performance requirements for a representative specimen under such loading. It is applicable to forwarders, skidders, feller-bunchers, processors, harvesters and loaders, as defined in ISO 6814. It is not applicable to machines having a rotating platform with a cab and boom on the platform. NOTE Research work is being done to develop a test method and criteria for machines having a rotating platform with a cab and boom on the platform. These machines are to be included in a future revision of ISO 8082.
