This International Standard specifies a method for the prepara-tion of predried test samples of natural iron ores, and iron ore concentrates and agglomerates, including sinter products, which are to be used for the determination of analytical values of constituents on a dry basis. The method is not applicable, and ISO 2596 shall be used, when the analytical value of the constituent being determined is higher than 10 % (m/m) in the following types of ores: a) processed ore containing metallic iron (direct reduced iron); b) natural or processed ores in which the sulfur content is higher than 0,2 % (m/m); c) natural or processed ores in which the content of com-bined water is higher than 2,5 % (m/m).

La présente norme a pour objet la description des méthodes d'échantillonnage des minerais de manganèse ou de chrome. Elle comporte deux parties applicables respectivement : Première partie : aux minerais chargés sur wagons. Deuxième partie : aux minerais non chargés sur wagons. Les procédés exposés dans cette seconde partie sont ou moins exacts ou d'une application pratique moins aisée que l'échantillonnage sur wagons. Suivant les possibilités il est recommandé de les adopter dans l'ordre préférentiel où ils sont classés dans la présente norme. Ces méthodes doivent être utilisées aux endroits d'expédition et de réception du minerai. Elles peuvent être employées pour tous les minerais de manganèse, ou de chrome. En annexe, est décrite une méthode de dosage de l'humidité, en vue des transactions commerciales.
