This Standard specifies requirements for materials used in vulcanized rubber seals for: 1) cold potable water supply (up to 50℃); 2) hot potable and non-potable water supply (up to 110℃); 3) drainage sewerage and rainwater systems (continuous flow up to 45℃ and intermittent flow up to 95℃. The different designations of seals specified are defined according to their type, application and requirements (see Table 4) General requirements for finished joint seals are also given; any additional requirements called for by the particular application are specified in the relevent product standards taking into account that the performance of pipe joints is a function of the seal material propertied, seal geometry and pipe joint design. This standard should be used where appropriate with product standards which specify performance requirements for joints. This Standard is applicable to joint seals for all pipeline materials, including iron, steel, clay, fibre cement, concrete, reinforced concrete, plastics and glass-reinforced plastic. It is applicable to elastomeric components of composite or non composite seals. In case of composite seals for materials of hardness ranges from 76 IRHD to 95 IRHD the requirements for elongation at break, compression set and stress relaxation apply only when the material is participating in the sealing function, or the long term stability of the seal. Joint seals made with an enclosed void as part of their design are included in the scope of this European Standard.

This part of SAE J1926 specifies dimensions, performance requirements, and test procedures for adjustable and nonadjustable light-duty (L series) stud ends with ASME B1.1 threads for use in fluid power and general applications and the O-rings used with them. Stud ends in accordance with this part of SAE J1926 may be used at working pressures up to 40 MPa for nonadjustable stud ends and up to 31.5 MPa for adjustable stud ends. The permissible working pressure depends upon materials, design, working conditions, application, etc. For threaded ports and stud end specified in new designs for hydraulic fluid power applications, only SAE J2244 shall be used. Threaded ports and stud ends in accordance with ISO 1179, ISO 9974, and ISO 11926 shall not be used for new design in hydraulic fluid power applications.

This European Standard specifies requirements for elastomeric materials used in seals for supply pipes and fittings, ancillaries and valves at operating temperatures in general from -5 °C up to 50 °C and in special cases from -15 °C up to 50 °C, for the following: General applications (see Table 4, type G) a) gaseous fuel (manufactured, natural and liquefied petroleum gas [LPG] in gaseous phase); b) hydrocarbon fluids with aromatic content up to 30 % (V/V), including LPG in liquid phase. Special applications (see Table 4, type H) Materials suitable for carrying gaseous fuels containing gas condensates and hydrocarbon fluids of unrestricted aromatic content. General requirements for finished joint seals are also given; any additional requirements called for by the particular application are specified in the relevant product standards taking into account that the performance of pipe joints is a function of the seal material properties, seal geometry and pipe joint design. This European Standard should be used where appropriate with product standards which specify performance requirements for joints. This European Standard is applicable to joint seals for all pipeline materials including iron, steel, copper and plastics. In the case of composite seals requirements in 4.2.8 and 4.2.9 apply only when the materials used for any elastomeric parts come into contact with gaseous fuel or hydrocarbon fluid. Elongation at break, tensile strength, compression set and stress relaxation requirements for materials of hardness categories 80 and 90 apply only when they constitute that part of the seal which participates directly in the sealing function or in long term stability. This standard is not applicable to the following: a) seals made from cellular materials; b) seals with enclosed voids as part of their design; c) seals with requirements of resistance to flame or to thermal stress; d) seals which contain splices joining pre-vulcanized profile ends.

1.1 This specification applies to those elastomeric cellular materials of a firm grade that are manufactured in preformed shapes for use as gaskets and for use as sealing materials, in the form of compression seals or gaskets, or both, for glazing other building joint applications. Note 18212;For softer cellular elastomeric materials used in secondary sealing applications, refer to Specification D 1056.1.2 Test Method C 1166, as referenced in this specification, should be used to measure and describe the properties of materials, products, or assemblies in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire risk assessment which takes into account all of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end useThe following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Section , of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.3 The committee with jurisdiction over this standard is not aware of any comparable standards published by other organizations.1.4 This test method is intended to determine the ability of compounds made from rubber or rubber-like materials to resist the effect of low temperatures that may cause them to become brittle and fracture or crack when bent. Standard specimens are exposed to specified low temperatures for definite periods after which the specimens are bent in a prescribed manner and any fracture or cracking noted. The procedure is commonly called the "Thiokol" method. Note 1Results obtained by this test method are influenced by the rate of flexing of the cooled specimens which can not be closely controlled in the prescribed apparatus. They are therefore of a qualitative nature and may not be closely reproducible over a range of several degrees of temperature depending on the speed of flexure. For more accurate determination of brittle temperature, and particularly in new specifications, Test Method D 746 is recommended.
