This part of the standard specifies the requirements for the hardware to perform the tasks within a BACS. It provides the terms, definitions, and abbreviations for the understanding of Part 2 and Part 3. Part 2 relates only to physical items/devices, i.e.:  operator stations and other human system interface devices;  devices for management functions;  control devices, automation stations and application specific controllers;  field devices and their interfaces;  cabling and interconnection of devices;  engineering and commissioning tools. This part of this standard shows a generic system model to which all-different types of BACS and their interconnections (BACS network) can fit. A graphical concept of the BACS network in terms of LAN and internetwork topology will be provided in Part 5 of this standard. National annexes: National annexes may specify the local requirements of physical and electrical characteristics, the verifications for BACS devices and equipment, and the code of practice for the physical installation of systems. The annexes shall refer to the regional implementations of the relevant IEC standards.

The cabling specified in this Technical Report is considered to be in addition to and not in place of the infrastructure specified in ISO/IEC 11801. This Technical Report specifies a customer premises cabling system infrastructure for an array of coverage areas that form a wireless network grid within a building. It is applicable to all of the balanced and optical fibre cabling classes specified in ISO/IEC 11801. This Technical Report specifies design and configuration of an ISO/IEC 11801 compliant horizontal cabling subsystem. Requirements and guidelines are provided with respect to a) minimum configuration, structure and topology, b) performance requirements for permanent links and channels, c) coverage and location of telecommunications outlets, d) interfaces to wireless access points, e) power delivery over balanced cabling. While placement and security of wireless access points are outside the scope of this Technical Report, placement of telecommunications outlets (TOs) is specified to enable flexible deployment of wireless services. Safety (electrical, fire, etc.) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements are outside the scope of this Technical Report.

This international standard establishes general principles for network- and device-management shared by and independent of the installation mode. The goal is to standardize the interaction, between a management client and a management server, that shall lead to the successful configuration of the devices. In this way, these management procedures thus specify the highest level communication requirements between a management client and a management server. These requirements specify a) the sequence of messages that shall be exchanged between a management client and a management server, and b) the contents and interpretation of the transported data, and c) the action to take based on these data (setting internal resources, state machines, physical actions, ...), and d) the error and exception handling. The management procedures base on the application layer services. Some management procedures solely base on the use of one or a sequence of dedicated application layer services to achieve the required goal. For these, the documents EN 50090-4-1 and EN 50090-4-2 provide sufficient information for the underlying mechanisms. Other management procedures additionally use the application layer services to access internal data in the management server to achieve the required goal. These data are laid down as objects as specified in EN 50090-3-2.

This Standard provides guidelines and requirements for security aspects of ETS communications relevant to the user plane. The user plane consists of those aspects related to the user and includes what is called the bearer plane.
