This European Standard specifies a method for characterizing the influence on fire performance of items of building hardware for incorporation into hinged or pivoted vertically installed fire door assemblies (having either one or two leaves) or vertically installed openable window assemblies, of known fire resistance of up to and including 240 minutes integrity (and where relevant insulation) in accordance with EN 1634-1. It applies to the testing of building hardware for use on hinged and pivoted doors and openable windows which include framed glazed doors and windows, but not glass doors. It does not include a test for durability or other performance characteristics, which should be evaluated according to the product standard for the item of building hardware or as given in EN 14600. The method is suitable for characterizing building hardware for use on non-metallic door or window assemblies consisting of cellulosic materials or mineral boards faced with cellulosic materials, hung in either cellulosic, mineral cored or metal frames: or conventional steel doors made from sheet steel, not more than 1,5 mm thick, hung in steel frames (steel doors include doors filled with mineral board or mineral fibre cores but not steel clad timber/cellulosic doors). The size of these assemblies can be up to that given in the field of direct application for the door leaf construction concerned. This method is not directly appropriate for evaluating building hardware for use on glass or glazed doors with decorative perimeter framing. The appropriateness of this method of test can be established by reference to the flow chart given in Annex A. This European Standard does not constitute a fire resistance test for a leaf, window, frame, intumescent seal, or anything other than the selected item of building hardware. The use of any resulting field of direct application is restricted to leaf and frame constructions which have been successfully tested to EN 1634-1. The method has been developed primarily to permit the evaluation of building hardware for hinged or pivoted door assemblies and openable windows, but the method is also suitable for evaluating some items of building hardware, which are non-edge mounted, for use with sliding doors and openable windows.

This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for strength, security, durability and function of electrical and electronic components for all types of electromechanically operated locks and striking plates used on doors, window doors and entrance doors in buildings. Requirements relating to the purely mechanical feature of products included in this European Standard (e.g. resistance to drilling/side load) are covered by EN 12209. This European Standard covers electromechanically operated locks and striking plates which are either manufactured and placed on the market in their entirety by one producer or assembled from sub-assemblies produced by more than one producer and designed to be used in combination. This document is not applicable to electrically powered hold-open devices (EN 1155), electrically controlled panic exit systems (prEN 13633) or electrically controlled emergency exit systems (prEN 13637). It does not apply to purely magnetic locks, mechatronic or mechanical cylinders (EN 1303), handles (EN 1906), locks for windows, padlocks (EN 12320), locks for safes (EN 1300), furniture locks or prison locks, nor does it apply to cover operating and identification devices (such as mechanical cylinders, intelligent cards, digit codes, magnetic cards). This European Standard does not, for the time being, apply to electromagnetic door locks but these devices will be considered for inclusion in the first revision of this European Standard.

This European Standard specifies test methods and requirements for the strength and durability of all types of hinges pivoting on a vertical axis and their components for all fields of application. The tests consist of the application of loads, forces and velocities simulating normal functional use, as well as misuse, that might reasonably be expected to occur. With the exception of the corrosion test in Clause 6.4, the tests are designed to evaluate properties without regard to materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes. The strength and durability tests only relate to the hinges and the parts used for the attachment, e.g. mounting plates and screws. The strength and durability tests are carried out in a test frame with specified properties. The test results can only be used as a guide to the performance of a piece of furniture. The test results are only valid for the hinges tested. These results may be used to represent the performance of production models provided that the tested model is representative of the production model. With the exception of corrosion, ageing and the influence of heat and humidity are not included. Annex A (normative): Requirements for product information. Annex B (normative): Loads and cycles.

This European Standard specifies requirements for the manufacture, performance and testing of panic exit devices mechanically operated by either a horizontal push-bar or a horizontal touch-bar, specifically designed for use in a panic situation on escape routes. The suitability of a panic exit device for use on fire/smoke resisting door assemblies is determined by fire performance tests conducted in addition to the performance tests required by this European Standard. Annex B indicates additional requirements for these products. This European Standard covers panic exit devices which are either manufactured and placed on the market in their entirety by one producer or produced by more than one producer and subsequently placed on the market as a kit in a single transaction.

This European Standard specifies performance requirements for the strength and durability of hardware for the operation of movable shutter sashes including requirements and test methods. This European Standard is applicable to hardware for side-hung and top-hung shutters comprising one or more shutter sashes. The requirements and test methods of this European Standard are applicable to the following:  shapes and dimensions of sash hinges, double-sashed shutter hinges and frame hinges  shapes and dimensions of frame hinges and sash hinges with arrest function Only the corrosion requirements of 4.7 are applicable to double-sash shutter latches, locking-rods, decorative corner-brackets, handles, stops without automatic arrest function, central hinges, shutter catches with automatic arrest function and other hardware components for window and door shutters. NOTE 1 The sashes of side-hung shutters may have additional projecting shutter-inserts. The hardware for these projecting shutter-inserts is not covered by the scope of this European Standard. NOTE 2 If due to the hardware fixing type or the dead weight of the described test shutter, this can not be used, a corresponding system sash with the same dimensions (800 mm wide × 1 400 mm high) can be tested. This is particularly valid for hardware used exclusively in a complete modular system from a systems manufacturer (consisting of the hardware components, frame profiles and panel units as well as the necessary fixing materials). NOTE 3 Tower bolts and locking-rods should conform to EN 12051. NOTE 4 Fixings used to attach hardware to shutters are not covered by this European Standard. To allow a choice of items from a single source, so-called "product group" of elements may be nominated by the manufacturer. The single components may be called "product group" components, if these are approved by accredited test authorities commissioned to test, based upon the comparable features; for example hinge features with regard to material, thickness, hole diameter and pin diameter. Where test results for the weakest element of a product group are valid the rest of the product group need not be tested. It is a test laboratory’s right to accept or reject a product for assessment within a product group or to request further test specimens.

This European Standard specifies requirements, methods of test and performance criteria against which the compatibility of components and their performance can be assessed when used in combination to form an electrically controlled hold-open system. It also specifies requirements for the integrity of such hold-open systems when connected to fire detection and fire alarm systems or other systems, including the signal exchange and technical data for interfaces. This European Standard provides requirements for the application of electrically controlled hold-open systems used for fire/smoke doors in buildings, where such doors are required to be self-closing. It covers planning, design (see Annex A), installation (see Annex B), commissioning, use and maintenance (see Annex E) of hold-open systems, intended for the protection of life and/or the protection of property. This may also include hold-open systems, or components of the hold-open system, that are self-contained in a single enclosure. Electrically controlled hold-open systems manufactured, installed and serviced in accordance with this European Standard are recommended for use wherever there is a requirement for reliable hold-open and release of an individual self-closing fire/smoke door assembly in the case of fire. The use of hold-open systems for closures in conveyor systems conforming to EN 1366-7, which applies in conjunction with EN 1363-1, may require additional proof of suitability, which is not covered by this European Standard. This European Standard does not cover design, installation, commissioning, use and maintenance of building fire detection and fire alarm systems (covered by CEN/TS 54-14) but does cover the connection of hold-open systems conforming to this European Standard to building fire detection and fire alarm systems, under certain prescribed conditions. This European Standard does not cover the requirements of performance characteristics and operational environment conditions of particular components of a hold-open system, where these requirements are already covered by European specifications, and which include appropriate test methods to assure reproducible test results for the product conformity assessment. These European Standards are referred to in Clause 5. This European Standard does not cover electrically controlled systems used for smoke venting purposes or systems that allow the door to remain open under fault conditions (i.e. not fail-safe). This European Standard does not cover electrically controlled hold-open systems that are not connected to main power supply and are battery powered only.
