An accelerated ageing that simulates the ageing caused by sunlight can be brought about by irradiation with light of the xenon arc type. A number of factors of uncertainty are inherent in this procedure, so comparisons should be available between the method used and exposure in the environment in which the product is to be used.

A method of testing the FIBC's characteristics is there-fore to subject it to a controlled dynamic stress of that size. The FIBC is allowed to fall freely from a predetermined height in a test rig.
