This European Standard specifies the technical requirements to minimise the hazards listed in Clause 4 which can arise during the commissioning, operation and maintenance of ground power equipment, when carried out in accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorised representative. It also takes into account some performance requirements recognised as essential by authorities, aircraft and ground support equipment (GSE) manufacturers as well as airlines and service companies. This European Standard applies to: -- ground power units either self-propelled or towable (Examples see Annex A); -- ground power equipment when mounted on other GSE; -- ground power accessories intended for ground power equipment (including accessories for fixed equipment). This European Standard does not apply to: -- the electrical characteristics of the supply, the type of power supply system and related measures against contact; -- any electrical supply system not intended for aircraft use; -- the on-board electrical system of the aircraft. This European Standard does not establish requirements for noise and vibration. Noise and vibration are dealt with respectively in EN 1915-4 and EN 1915-3. This European Standard does not deal with hazards in respect to a standard automotive chassis and from other vehicles on the apron. This Part of EN 12312 is not applicable to ground power equipment which is manufactured before the date of publication of this European Standard by CEN.

This part of ISO 6966 specifies the minimum general design requirements applicable to aircraft ground support equipment, as defined in 3.1, in order to ensure a) definition of aircraft ground support equipment general requirements for designers; b) effective operation of aircraft ground support equipment. The requirements of this part of ISO 6966 apply to any piece of aircraft ground support equipment, as defined in 3.1, used on airports. NOTE An informative list of the most commonly used pieces of ground equipment is provided in Annex B. This part of ISO 6966 does not provide all the design requirements applicable for aircraft ground support equipment. Other requirements apply, and can be found in separate standards: — ISO 6966-2 specifies the safety-related requirements applicable to all aircraft ground support equipment; — ISO 4116 specifies the additional requirements applicable for conveying surfaces of those pieces of aircraft ground support equipment intended for handling and loading of baggage and cargo unit load devices (ULDs); NOTE In addition, guidelines for efficiency of conveying surfaces of ground support equipment used to handle air cargo ULDs are provided in Annex A. — specific standards, listed in the Bibliography, define the functional and performance requirements for certain types of aircraft ground support equipment. This part of ISO 6966 does not apply to unmodified general-use transportation vehicles such as automobiles, vans, buses and flat-bed trucks when used on airports.

This International Standard specifies the functional requirements for a self-propelled loader capable of raising air cargo unit load devices (ULDs) with base dimensions and maximum mass as follows: This International Standard does not intend to provide all the design requirements applicable for aircraft lower deck loaders. Other requirements can be found in separate International Standards: — ISO 4116 specifies the additional requirements applicable for conveying surfaces of those pieces of aircraft ground support equipment intended for handling and loading of baggage and cargo unit load devices; — ISO 6966-1 and ISO 6966-2 specify, respectively, the general and safety-related requirements applicable to all aircraft ground support equipment. The requirements of this International Standard were determined based on generally recognized assumptions with regard to a) the normally intended use of aircraft ground support equipment, when used on the ramp of international civil airports in order to handle, service or maintain civil transport aircraft; b) the environmental (surface, slope, weather, lighting, operating rules, staff qualification, etc.) conditions prevailing on the ramp area of the majority of international civil airports. It is assumed the manufacturers of aircraft lower deck loaders define in the relevant documentation the specifically intended conditions of use and environment for each item of equipment, and the purchasers systematically review their own specific conditions of use and environment in order to determine whether those stated are adequate, or negotiate with the manufacturer appropriate modifications to ensure they are.

The requirements of this part of ISO 6966 apply to any piece of aircraft ground support equipment, as defined in 3.1, used on airports. NOTE An informative list of the most commonly used pieces of ground equipment is provided in Annex A. This part of ISO 6966 does not provide all the design requirements applicable for aircraft ground support equipment. Other requirements apply, and can be found in separate standards: — ISO 6966-1 specifies the general, other than safety related, design requirements applicable to all aircraft ground support equipment; — ISO 4116 specifies the additional requirements applicable for conveying surfaces of those pieces of aircraft ground support equipment intended for handling and loading of baggage and cargo unit load devices; — specific standards, listed in the Bibliography, define the functional and performance requirements for certain types of aircraft ground support equipment.

This European Standard does not apply to: -maintenance docks either fixed to the ground or moveable only for docking procedure. This European Standard does not establish requirements for noise and vibration. Noise and vibration are dealt with respectively in EN 1915-4 and EN 1915-3. This European Standard does not deal with hazards in respect to a standard automotive chassis and from other vehicles on the apron. This Part of EN 12312 is not applicable to maintenance stairs and platforms which are manufactured before the date of publication of this standard by CEN. This part of EN 12312 is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 1915-1, EN 1915-2, EN 1915-3 (for vehicles) and EN 1915-4.

This document specifies the technical requirements to minimise the hazards listed in Clause 4 which can arise during the commissioning, operation and maintenance of container/pallet dollies and loose load trailers when carried out in accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorised representative. It also takes into account some performance requirements recognised as essential by authorities, aircraft and ground support equipment (GSE) manufacturers as well as airlines and handling agencies. This document applies to container/pallet dollies using ball-mat, inverted cargo castors, or rollers and loose load trailers intended to be used for the transportation of baggage and cargo on airports (Examples see Annex A). This document does not apply to trailers of similar design as used on public roads, e.g. truck type trailers. This document does not establish requirements for noise and vibration. Noise and vibration are dealt with respectively in EN 1915-4 and EN 1915-3. This document is not applicable to container/pallet dollies and loose load trailers which are manufactured before the date of publication by CEN of this document. NOTE Certain measurements have been given in imperial units (in parentheses), following the metric measurements, since the containers/pallets to be handled are based mainly on the imperial system.

This International Standard specifies dimensional interface and unobstructed space requirements applicable to the aircraft mating section of either a) passenger boarding bridges, or b) passenger transfer vehicles used at airports for boarding and disembarkation of passengers on the types of civil transport aircraft listed below. These types of aircraft have a door sill height greater than 2,0 m (80 in) above the ground. Lower aircraft usually do not require such means of access, and have not been taken into account. Data was compiled and checked as to the exact location of such items on the most frequently used civil transport aircraft types (i.e. families of aircraft sub-types with the same fuselage design and the same general type designator, which potentially includes any future derivative aircraft with the same fuselage). These types include the following: — AIRBUS INDUSTRIE: A300 / A310 / A318 / A319 / A320 / A321 / A330 / A340 — BOEING COMMERCIAL AIRPLANE: B717 / B727 / B737 / B747 / B757 / B767 / B777 — LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT: L1011 — McDONNELL DOUGLAS: DC9/DC10/MD11 /MD80/MD90 It is not the intent of this International Standard to specify any requirements applicable to aircraft design. Future aircraft types with a new fuselage should meet the main deck passenger doors requirements for interface with passenger boarding bridges or passenger transfer vehicles of ISO 7718, which would ensure their compatibility with the aircraft mating section of passenger boarding bridges or passenger transfer vehicles meeting the requirements of this International Standard. NOTE Read this International Standard in conjunction with the documents indicated in Bibliography.
