本方法适用于日用陶器、炻器、瓷器的釉面维氏硬度测定。 陶器 、炻器、瓷器的釉面维氏硬度是用一相对两面夹角136°的金钢石正四棱锥形压头，在一定负荷作用下，压人被测定试样的表面，经规定的保荷时间后，卸除负荷，测量其压痕对角线长度来确定的。因而本方法测得的硬度实质是试样表面对金钢石压头的相对硬度。
