This European Standard specifies the sharpness and edge retention of knives which are produced for professional and domestic use in the preparation of food of all kinds, specifically those knives intended for hand use. Powered blade instruments of any kind are excluded. Generally these types of knives are manufactured with blades of either plain edge design or with edges incorporating particular features to enhance or optimize aspects of cutting ability. The following two types of knife blade are suitable for the cutting test: Type A edges: Cutting edges which can be resharpened by the user and edges with a pitch greater than 1 mm; Type B edges: Cutting edges which are not intended to be resharpened on a steel. Whilst these knives are predominantly manufactured with blades made from various grades of heat treated steels, the testing of knives of any construction or blade material is not precluded providing that the test criteria are met. The principle of the testing is to reproduce a cutting action, by forward and reverse strokes, against a pack of synthetic test medium under controlled parameters.

1.1 This test method can be used to determine the grease particle capture efficiency of components and systems used in commercial kitchens to capture grease effluent prior to entering the exhaust duct. The results can be used to select a filter system best suited to a particular application.1.2 This test method is applicable to filter components and systems. The performance information is obtained for new or clean filters and does not include the performance of used or loaded filters. 1.3 The filter can be evaluated with respect to the following (where applicable): 1.3.1 Pressure drop as a function of airflow through the filter (10.3), and 1.3.2 Particulate capture efficiency by particle size (10.4). 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.5 This test method may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Heat Gain to Space8212;This test method determines the heat gain to the space from a hood/appliance system. Note 28212;To maintain a constant temperature in the conditioned space, this heat gain must be matched by space cooling. The space sensible cooling load, in tons, then equals the heat gain in Btu/h divided by the conversion factor of 12 000 Btu/h (3.412 W) per ton of cooling. Appliance heat gain data can be used for sizing air conditioning systems. Details of load calculation procedures can be found in ASHRAE, see Ref (1) and Ref (2)5 . The calculation of associated cooling loads from heat gains to the test space at various flow rates can be used along with other information by heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and exhaust system designers to achieve energy-conservative, integrated kitchen ventilation system designs. Parametric Studies: 5.2.1 This test method also can be used to conduct parametric studies of alternative configurations of hoods, appliances, and replacement air systems. In general, these studies are conducted by holding constant all configuration and operational variables except the variable of interest. This test method, therefore, can be used to evaluate the following: 5.2.1.1 The overall system performance with various appliances, while holding the hood and replacement air system characteristics constant. 5.2.2 Entire hoods or characteristics of a single hood, such as end panels, can be varied with appliances and replacement air constant. 5.2.3 Replacement air characteristics, such as makeup air location, direction, and volume, can be varied with constant appliance and hood variables.1.1 This test method covers the determination of appliance heat gain to space derived from the measurement and calculation of appliance energy consumption, energy exhausted, and energy to food, based on a system energy balance, parametric evaluation of operational or design variations in appliances, hoods, or replacement air configurations.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

The methods outlined in this guide can be used to qualitatively and quantitatively describe the sensory characteristics and performance of trigger hard surface household cleaning products for nonporous surfaces. The methods are suited for descriptive analysis and may be adaptable for consumer acceptance research. This guide provides the procedure for the evaluation of package, application, performance, after-use and fragrance aspects of hard surface cleaners. Depending on the test objectives, all or some of these measures may be used. This guide, as defined by ASTM, is designed for use for product research guidance in product formulation, new product development, and quality control issues. This guide is a compendium of information or series of options that does not recommend a specific course of action. This guide is not intended for claim substantiation, as it has not been subjected to validation testing. This guide is for use by individuals who familiarize themselves with these procedures and who have previous experience with sensory evaluations. It is suggested that the individuals have some experience with developing and training a descriptive panel or work under the supervision of a sensory professional who has. This guide might involve hazardous materials. This guide does not claim to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this guide to establish appropriate safety and healthy practices and to determine the applicability of limitations prior to use.1.1 This guide covers guidelines specific to the sensory evaluation of trigger hard surface cleaners. It covers the procedure for preparing a nonporous surface with the intent to measure one or all of the various aspects of a trigger product: package, application, performance, after-use and fragrance characteristics.1.2 This guide for preparing a nonporous surface may also be used to assess other sensory aspects of a trigger hard surface cleaner, visual, tactile, fragrance, and performance or package ergonomics. It is applicable for use with highly trained assessors and descriptive panels and can be used for consumer acceptance evaluation. 1.3 This guide for preparing nonporous hard surfaces is intended to focus on surface preparation and evaluation, not on panel selection, training, or development.1.4 The reader should be aware that good sensory practices are required when preparing the surfaces, and in developing and training the panelists.1.5 The researcher is responsible for identifying the most appropriate test design and using the appropriate statistical tool to address that experimental design.1.6 Since this guide''s intended use is to provide direction on the presentation and measurement of the different aspects of spray trigger hard surface cleaners, this guide may not accurately represent all possible soils and surfaces where spray trigger hard surface cleaners may be used.1.7 This guide provides suggested procedures and is not meant to exclude alternate procedures that may be effectively used to provide the same results.1.8 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This International Standard deals with the safety of electric insect killers for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account – persons (including children) whose ? physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or ? lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction; – children playing with the appliance.
