This document specifies a relatively simple engineering method for determining the sound power levels of small, movable noise sources. The methods specified in this document are suitable for measurements of all types of noise within a specified frequency range, except impulsive noise consisting of isolated bursts of sound energy which are covered by ISO 3744 and ISO 3745. NOTE A classification of different types of noise is given in ISO 12001.

This standard provides specific guidance for assessing the severity of radial vibration measured on the shafts of coupled industrial machines with fluid-film bearings in situ. It applies to coupled industrial machines with fluid-film bearings, having maximum continuous rated speeds in the range 1000 r/min to 30000 r/min and not being limited by size and power (with certain restrictions), comprising - steam turbines and generators with outputs less than or equal to 40 MW; - steam turbines and generators with outputs greater than 40 MW and speeds other than 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min, 3000 r/min or 3600 r/min (although generators seldom fall into this category); - rotary compressors; - industrial gas turbines with outputs less than or equal to 3 MW; - turbofans; - electric drives and associated gears, where relevant; - rotodynamic pumps (turbo pumps). Two criteria are provided for assessing the machine vibration when operating under steady state conditions. One criterion considers the magnitude of the observed vibration; the second considers changes in the magnitude. In addition, different criteria are provided for transient operating conditions, such as run-up and coast-down. The evaluation procedures presented in this part of ISO 7919 are based on broad-band measurements. The following are excluded from this part of ISO 7919: - steam turbines and/or generators with outputs greater than 40 MW and speeds of 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min, 3000 r/min or 3600 r/min (see ISO 20816-2); - gas turbine sets with outputs greater than 3 MW (see ISO 7919-4 and ISO 20816-2); - machine sets in hydraulic power generating and pump-storage plants (see ISO 20816-5); - rotodynamic pumps including integrated electric motors, i.e. where the impeller is mounted directly on the motor shaft or is rigidly attached to it (see ISO 10816-7); - submerged motor-pumps; - reciprocating pumps; - rotary positive displacement compressors (e. g. screw compressors); - reciprocating compressors; - wind turbines.

This standard provides specific guidance for assessing the severity of radial vibration measured on the bearing housings of gas turbines with fluid-film bearings in situ. The criteria provided in this document apply to heavy-duty gas turbine sets used in electrical and mechanical drive applications, with outputs greater than 3 MW and a speed range under load between 3 000 r/min and 30 000 r/min. This includes gas turbines coupled to other rotating machinery either directly or through a gearbox. Two criteria are provided for assessing the machine vibration when operating under steady state conditions. One criterion considers the magnitude of the observed vibration; the second considers changes in the magnitude. In addition, different criteria are provided for transient operating conditions, such as run-up and coast-down. The evaluation procedures presented in this part of ISO 10816 are based on broad-band measurements. This part of ISO 10816 is not applicable to the following: a) aero-derivative gas turbines (including gas turbines with dynamic properties similar to those of aero-derivatives); b) gas turbines with outputs greater than 40 MW and with rated speeds of 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min, 3000 r/min or 3600 r/min (see ISO 20816-2); c) gas turbines with outputs less than or equal to 3 MW (see ISO 10816-3); d) gas turbine driven rotodynamic pumps (see ISO 10816-7); e) coupled steam turbines and/or generators with outputs less than or equal to 40 MW (see ISO 10816-3); f) coupled steam turbines and/or generators with outputs greater than 40 MW and speeds of 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min, 3000 r/min or 3600 r/min (see ISO 20816-2); g) coupled steam turbines and/or generators with outputs greater than 40 MW and speeds other than 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min, 3000 r/min or 3600 r/min (although generators seldom fall into this category) (see ISO 10816-3); h) synchronizing clutches which couple the gas turbine to a steam turbine or generator (see ISO 20816-2); i) coupled rotary compressor

This International Standard specifies a test procedure, environment and instrumentation for measuring the exterior sound pressure levels from road vehicles under stationary condition, providing a continuous measure of the sound pressure level over a range of engine speeds. This standard applies only to road vehicles of categories L, M and N equipped with an internal combustion engines. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle.

This document describes how sound pressure levels intended as a basis for assessing environmental noise limits or comparison of scenarios in spatial studies can be determined. Determination can be done by direct measurement and by extrapolation of measurement results by means of calculation. This document is primarily intended to be used outdoors but some guidance is given for indoor measurements as well. It is flexible and to a large extent, the user determines the measurement effort and, accordingly, the measurement uncertainty, which is determined and reported in each case. Thus, no limits for allowable maximum uncertainty are set up. Often, the measurement results are combined with calculations to correct for reference operating or propagation conditions different from those during the actual measurement. This document can be applied on all kinds of environmental noise sources, such as road and rail traffic noise, aircraft noise and industrial noise.

This document defines terms and expressions used in the field of underwater acoustics, including natural, biological and anthropogenic (i.e. man-made) sound. It includes the generation, propagation and reception of underwater sound and its scattering, including reflection, in the underwater environment including the seabed (or sea bottom), sea surface and biological organisms. It also includes all aspects of the effects of underwater sound on the underwater environment, humans and aquatic life. The properties of underwater acoustical systems are excluded.

This document describes the methodologies, procedures, and measurement systems to be used for the measurement of the radiated underwater acoustic sound generated during pile driving using percussive blows with a hammer. A major motivation for undertaking measurements of the sound radiated during percussive pile driving is as part of an assessment of impact on aquatic fauna required by regulatory frameworks. This document describes a generic approach to measurements that can be applied to different regulatory requirements. This document is suitable for measurement of percussive pile driving undertaken for offshore installation of foundations (monopiles, jackets, tripods, etc.) used in construction of offshore wind farms, oil and gas platforms, and other inshore structures such as bridge foundations and aquatic renewable energy devices. This document does not cover measurement of the sound radiated by vibropiling or sheet piling. This document does not cover piling in water of depth less than 4 m or greater than 100 m. The procedures described herein provide guidance on making measurements to satisfy the following objectives: — to monitor source output during piling, for example, for regulatory purposes; — to provide consistency in comparison of piling noise from different construction projects; — for validation of modelling or predictions. This document covers only the measurement of the sound field radiated during percussive pile driving. The scope of this document does not include the assessment of exposure metrics, or the use of exposure criteria. No attempt is made to prescribe a methodology for generating maps of the acoustic field in the vicinity of the source. In the normative part of this document, requirements and procedures are described for measurement of the sound field at specific ranges from the pile being driven. In this part of the document, no procedure is provided for determination of an acoustic output metric that is independent of the propagation path between source and receiver (such as a source level). Ideally, such a metric would have some predictive utility (for example, in calculating noise impact zones and noise maps). However, some information on the determination of a possible acoustic output metric is provided in Annex A. This document covers only the measurement of sound pressure in the water column. The scope does not include measurement of sound particle velocity in the water column due to the propagating sound wave, or seabed vibration caused by waves propagating across the sea-floor. This exclusion does not imply that such measures are unimportant; indeed, their importance in assessing the impact on aquatic life is recognized. However, at the time of drafting, measurement of these quantities is not yet mature enough for standardization.
