ABSTRACT The test material@ API 78-9@ Paraffinic Oil (70SUS/100??@ was tested for potential acute toxicity using a battery of six tests: Primary Dermal Irritation@ Primary Eye Irritation@ Acute Dermal Toxicity@ Acute Oral Toxicity@ Skin Sensitization@ and Subacute Dermal Toxicity. Materials@ methods@ and results of individual tests are presented in this report. The test material produced no eye irritation and only minimal primary skin irritation effects. Neither systemic toxicity nor mortality were produced in the acute dermal or acute oral studies; a dermal LD50 and an oral LD50 greater than 5 g/kg were established. Based on histopathologic observations on the subacute dermal toxicity study@ API 78-9 produced slight dermal irritation and inflammation upon repeated dermal exposure over 21 days. Results of the skin sensitization study revealed the test material to be non-sensitizing.
