Scope
This part of GB/T 39560 specifies a boiling water extraction method for the qualitative determination of hexavalent chromium in colorless and colored anti-corrosion coatings on metal samples. Due to its high activity, the content of hexavalent chromium in anti-corrosion coatings will change significantly with time and storage conditions. Since the storage conditions prior to sample submission are often unknown or not available, the process can only be based on the presence of hexavalent chromium detected in the coating during testing. When testing freshly plated samples, a waiting time of at least 5 days is required (after the electroplating process is complete) to ensure that the coating has stabilized. Oxidation of trivalent chromium to hexavalent chromium may occur during the waiting period. 2
