Scope
This part of GB/T 39560 describes two standard methods and two reference methods for the determination of diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), di-n-butyl phthalate in polymers for electrical and electronic products (DBP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), diisooctyl phthalate (DEHP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP). The standard methods for this part are gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with pyrolysis/thermal desorption (Py/TD-GC-MS). GC-MS method is the standard method for the quantitative determination of DIBP, DBP, BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP and DIDP, and the determination range is from 50 mg/kg to 2 000 mg/kg. Equipped with pyrolysis/thermal desorption gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py/TD-GC-MS), suitable for screening and semi-quantitative analysis of DIBP, DBP, BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP in polymer materials for electrical and electronic products and DIDP, the determination range is 100 mg/kg to 2 000 mg/kg. Ion attachment mass spectrometry (IAMS) is suitable for screening and semi-quantitative analysis of DIBP, DBP, BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP and DIDP, see Appendix A for details. Due to the limited peak resolution of mass spectra, methods for the determination of DBP and DIBP, DEHP, and DNOP by IAMS have not yet been established. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is limited to the determination of BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP and DIDP, see Appendix B for details. Methods for the determination of DBP and DIBP by LC-MS techniques have not been established due to limitations in the peak resolution of mass spectra. A flowchart is provided in Appendix C describing how to use two standard methods: Py/TD-GC-MS and GC-MS, and how to use two reference methods: direct injection (DIP)-ion attachment mass spectrometry (IAMS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). These four test methods have been evaluated by testing polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials with a phthalate content of approximately 450 mg/kg to 30 000 mg/kg. The four methods described in this section do not specifically evaluate other polymer types, phthalates, or use outside the specified concentration ranges above.
