This part of GB/T223 specifies the method for the determination of nitrogen content in steel and alloys by distillation and separation of indophenol blue spectrophotometry. This section applies to the determination of nitrogen content in the range of 0.0006% to 0.050% by mass fraction in low alloy steel and 0.010% to 0.050% in mass fraction in high alloy steel. This section does not apply to the determination of nitrogen content in steel and alloys containing silicon nitride or silicon content exceeding 0.6%.
