Scope
This standard applies to electrical and electronic equipment and systems for machines (including a group of machines working together), but not for electrical and electronic equipment and systems for hand-held working machines and advanced systems (such as inter-system communication). The equipment referred to in this standard begins at the electrical power entry for mechanical and electrical equipment (see 5.1). Electrical equipment or parts of electrical equipment to which this Part applies have a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V ac or 1500 V dc and a rated frequency not exceeding 200 Hz. For higher voltages or frequencies, special requirements apply. This part is a general standard and does not limit or hinder technological progress. It does not include all technical requirements (such as protection, interlocks or controls) that are required by other standards or regulations to protect persons from non-electrical harm. Special requirements for safety can be raised for various types of machinery with special requirements. This part is specifically applicable to (but not limited to) the mechanical and electrical equipment defined in 3.33 (the electrical equipment of the machinery listed in Appendix A falls within the scope of this part). Special requirements may be added to the electrical equipment of the following machinery: - machinery that is exposed to the air (i.e. outside a building or other protective structure); - machinery that uses, handles or produces explosive materials (such as paint or sawdust); - machinery used in explosive and flammable atmospheres; - machinery which increases special hazards when processing or using certain materials; - mining machinery; - sewing machinery, apparatus and systems (included in IEC 60204-31); Lifting appliances (included in IEC 60204-32). Power circuits that directly use electrical energy as a means of processing do not belong to the scope of this standard.
