Scope

This part of GB/T 17179 specifies the protocol used to provide connectionless network services described in GB/T 15126 and to perform certain network layer management functions. The protocol relies on low-level connectionless services provided by real subnetworks and/or data links. The low-level connectionless service assumed by the protocol can be obtained directly from the connectionless real subnet, or indirectly on the connection real subnet, as described in GB/T 15274-1994, through an appropriate subnet-dependent The Convergence Function (SNDCF) can be obtained by relying on the operation of the Subnetwork Convergence Protocol (SNDCP). This standard specifies the operation of a unified, abstract "low-level subnetwork service" protocol. Other standards stipulate the method of obtaining this "lower subnet service" from a real subnet, such as a subnet conforming to GB/T 15629.4-1997 or GB/T 16974-1997. Such "low-level subnet services" may be available from subnets other than those specifically covered by other standards. This standard specifies: a) the procedures for the connectionless transfer of data and control information from one network to another peer network entity; b) the encoding of protocol data units (PDUs) for the transfer of data and control information, including Variable-length protocol header format; c) procedures for correct interpretation of protocol control information; d) functional requirements for implementations claiming conformance to this standard. Procedures are defined in terms of: a) interaction between peer network entities by exchanging protocol data units; b) interaction between network entities and network service users by exchanging network service primitives; c) network entities and abstract low-level services Providers interact by exchanging service primitives. This part also provides the PICS form of this agreement, which complies with the relevant requirements and relevant guidelines stipulated in GB/T 17178.1-1997.
