This standard specifies various characteristics of keyboards used in information technology equipment. The keyboard defined in this standard is a customary linear keyboard, which specifies the shape and relative placement of the keyboard areas. This standard specifies the key numbering system for numeric keyboards, alphanumeric keyboards or composite keyboards of the two keyboards used on information technology equipment. This section specifies the rules for the arrangement of characters and symbols on numeric keyboards, alphanumeric keyboards or composite keyboards of these two keyboards used on information technology equipment. This part applies to different languages, but the main specification applies to languages written from left to right and from top to bottom. This standard specifies the function assignment of the keys. Common names for graphic characters and control functions are given in accordance with usage habits.
