This standard specifies the Gregorian calendar date and time and the notation of time intervals. It includes: a) calendar dates expressed in terms of year, month and day of month; b) sequential dates expressed in terms of year and day of year; c) weekdays expressed in terms of year, week number and day of week; d ) time of day based on the 24-hour timekeeping system; e) time difference between local time and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC); f) combination of date and time; g) time interval; h) recurring time interval. This International Standard applies to date and time representations involved in the exchange of information. This International Standard does not cover dates and times expressed in words in date and time notation, nor does it cover dates and times not expressed in characters. This standard takes into account leap seconds, which are sometimes inserted at the end of calendar months to maintain the astronomical precision of calendar days. This standard does not give any special meaning or interpretation to all data elements represented by the notation of this standard. Its meaning is determined by the context of the application.
