This standard specifies the requirements for an organization to establish, implement, maintain and improve an energy management system, aiming to enable the organization to adopt a systematic approach to achieve energy performance objectives, including continuous improvement of energy efficiency, energy use and consumption. This standard specifies requirements related to energy use and consumption, including measurement, documentation and reporting, design and procurement of equipment, systems, processes, and personnel who have an impact on energy performance. This International Standard considers all variables that have an impact on energy performance and can be monitored and influenced by the organization. However, this standard does not specify specific energy performance level requirements. This standard can be used alone or in combination with other management systems. This standard is applicable to any organization that self-declares an energy policy and wishes to ensure that it achieves and demonstrates its conformity. Its conformity can be confirmed through self-assessment, self-declaration or external energy management system certification.
