5.1 This test method provides controlled environments which are utilized to produce corrosion of metal, metal-coated, or nonmetallic-coated smooth or deformed shank driven fasteners in contact with treated wood exposed to the given test environments. The test method provides information that can be used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of metal, metal-coated, or nonmetallic-coated smooth or deformed shank driven fasteners in contact with different chemical wood treatments. 5.2 The results shall be used for comparative purposes only and they shall not be correlated to exposure time in natural environments. 5.3 The reproducibility of results in these types of tests is highly dependent on the type of samples tested and the evaluation criteria selected, as well as the control of the operating variables. 1.1 This test method covers and focuses on the corrosion resistance of metal, metal-coated, and nonmetallic-coated smooth and deformed shank driven fasteners in contact with treated wood in exterior or high moisture exposure applications using comparative tests with control fastener specimens of standardized benchmarks. This test method may be used for preservative-treated wood. 1.2 This test method describes the apparatus, procedure, and conditions required to maintain test environments for the Cyclic Fog Test and the Steady State Moisture Test. 1.3 This test method describes the types of test samples, lists exposure periods, and gives guidance on interpretation of results. 1.4 Until experience is gained comparing laboratory-to-laboratory results with this test method, comparisons of fasteners, coatings, materials, or preservatives shall be made only within the results of the same test. 1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values in parentheses are for information only. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This part of this European Standard specifies the general requirements for bolting assemblies for non-preloaded structural bolting. Bolting assemblies in accordance with this European Standard are designed to be used in structural bolting connections for shear and/or tensile loading. The intended use of bolting assemblies in accordance with this European standard is structural metallic works. It applies to bolts (the term used when bolts partially threaded, screws, studs and stud-bolts are considered all together) and nuts made of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel or aluminium or aluminium alloy with the following property classes:- bolts made of carbon steel or alloy steel: 4.6, 4.8, 5.6, 5.8, 6.8, 8.8, 10.9 (in accordance with EN ISO 898-1); - nuts made of carbon steel or alloy steel: 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 (in accordance with EN ISO 898-2); - bolts made of austenitic stainless steel: 50, 70, 80 (in accordance with EN ISO 3506-1); - nuts made of austenitic stainless steel: 50, 70, 80 (in accordance with EN ISO 3506-2); - bolts made of aluminium or aluminium alloy: AL1 to AL6 (in accordance with EN 28839); - nuts made of aluminium or aluminium alloy: AL1 to AL6 (in accordance with EN 28839). This European Standard applies to bolting assemblies with ISO metric coarse pitch thread from sizes M12 to M39 for use in steel structures according to EN 1090-2, and from M5 to M39 for use in aluminium or aluminium alloy structures according to EN 1090-3. The use of thread sizes larger than M39 is not precluded provided all applicable requirements of this standard are met. WARNING - Only bolting assemblies are covered by this harmonized standard: separate bolts or nuts, not tested as part of an assembly lot of bolting assemblies in accordance with EN 15048-2, are not covered by this harmonized standard and cannot be CE marked. NOTE 1 The property classes 4.8, 5.8 and 6.8 may be subjected to limitations of use. NOTE 2 High-strength structural bolting assemblies for preloading which meet the requirements of EN 14399- 1 are not within the scope of this European Standard but they are also suitable for use in non-preloaded structural bolting. NOTE 3 Bolts and nuts made of aluminium or aluminium alloys are not designed to be used in steel structures, see EN 1090-2. Bolting assemblies in accordance with this European Standard are not designed to be welded. Railway rail fasteners are not covered by this European Standard.

1.1 This specification2 covers five grades of bolting materials with twelve classes of yield strength ranging from 50 to 120 ksi [345 to 827 MPa] for use in high-temperature service for bolting components, such as bolts, screws, nuts, or studs, for pressure vessel and valve flanges. See Specification A962/A962M for the definition of bolting. The material requires special processing and is not intended for general purpose applications. 1.2 The following referenced general requirements are indispensable for application of this specification: Specification A962/A962M. 1.3 Supplementary Requirements are provided for use at the option of the purchaser. The Supplementary Requirements shall only apply when specified individually by the purchaser in the purchase order or contract. 1.4 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound units and in SI units; however, unless the purchase order or contract specifies the applicable “M” specification designation (SI units), the inch-pound units shall apply. 1.5 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. This International Standard specifies dimensional requirements for electroplated fasteners of steel or copper alloy. It specifies coating thicknesses and gives recommendations for hydrogen embrittlement relief for fasteners with high tensile strength or hardness and for surface-hardened fasteners. This International Standard primarily concerns the electroplating of threaded fasteners, but it may also be applied to other threaded parts. For the applicability to screws that cut or form their own mating threads, see clause 8. The specifications given in this International Standard may also be applied to non-threaded parts such as washers and pins.

This International Standard specifies material, process, dimensional and some performance requirements for hot dip spun galvanized coatings applied to coarse threaded steel fasteners from M8 up to and including M64 and for property classes up to and including 10.9 for bolts, screws and studs and 12 for nuts. It is not recommended to hot dip galvanize threaded fasteners in diameters smaller than M8 and/or with pitches below 1,25 mm. NOTE Attention is drawn to the fact that the proof loads and stresses under proof load of oversize tapped nuts with threads M8 and M10 and the ultimate tensile loads and proof loads of undersize threaded bolts and screws with threads M8 and M10 are reduced as compared to the values specified in ISO 898-2 and ISO 898-1 respectively and are specified in Annex A. It primarily concerns the spun hot dip galvanizing of threaded steel fasteners, but it may also be applied to other threaded steel parts. The specifications given in this International Standard may also be applied to non-threaded steel parts such as washers.

This SAE Parts Standard provides dimensional and quality assurance requirements for M6 through M36 metric sizes of studs in the following configurations in materials needed for ship system applications: 1. Continuous thread studs in M thread profile. b. Double end studs-clamping type (also called bolt-studs) where both ends are of the same thread series but different lengths (M thread profile). A complete inch companion to this document is provided in SAE J2271. These studs are primarily for use in ship systems and equipment. The continuous thread studs and the constant strength double end studs are configurations particularly suited to applications which are subject to high shock requirements.
