This specification covers polyurethane (PUR) in the form of two-component sealing compounds. This product has been used typically for contact with fuels, but usage is not limited to such applications. Each application should be considered separately. This polyurethane (PUR) has a service temperature range of -65 to +250 °F (-54 to 121 °C) with a continuous fuel service temperature range of -65 to +160 °F (-54 to +71 °C). It may be used for faying surface sealing, wet-installation of fasteners, overcoat of fasteners, sealing joints and seams and, in some cases, as a non-structural adhesive. NOTE: The use of an adhesion promoter shall be required to obtain proper adhesion.

This document describes the requirements for and methods of testing of organic linings which are applied to metallic process engineering equipment that will come in contact with chemical substances The requirements specified here may be used for the purposes of quality control (e.g. as agreed between the contract partners. The standard applies to linings which serve one or more of the following purposes: -- to protect the component from adverse effects of aggressive substances; -- to protect waters (e.g. ground water) from harmful substances; -- to protect the charge from becoming contaminated by components released from the substrate material; -- to achieve a particular surface quality. This standard applies to vessels, apparatus, piping parts and other components for process plants made of metallic substrate materials which are in contact with media and are provided with a surface protection made of a) prefabricated, natural or synthetic rubber based sheeting (subsequently named rubber lining), to be applied in the workshop or on site; b) prefabricated, phenol formaldehyde or epoxy resin based sheeting (subsequently named duroplastic lin- ing), to be applied in the workshop only; c) prefabricated, thermoplastic products (e.g. foils, sheeting, plates, pipes) (subsequently named thermo- plastic lining), to be applied in the workshop or on site. The standard specifies the requirements, acceptance inspection, packaging, transport, storage and installation of organic linings for metallic materials. The tests described in this standard are intended for verification of the suitability of sheeting used for linings and for acceptance inspection to be carried out on the products during or after application of the lining or as part of routine inspections to determine any changes effected in the lining during service.

Free films are required for conducting tests to evaluate physical properties such as tensile and elongation (Test Method D 2370), moisture vapor permeability (Test Methods D 1653), and other physical properties of organic coatings where the substrate may interfere with the determination.1.1 This practice covers the preparation of free films of organic coatings for use in determining the physical properties of the coatings. Procedures are given for preparing free films on three alternative substrates. These substrates are treated FEP (fluorinated ethylene-propylene) sheet, silicone coated paper, and halosilane coated glass plates. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
