IEC 62435-3:2020 describes the aspects of data storage that are necessary for successful use of electronic components being stored after long periods while maintaining traceability or chain of custody. It defines what sort of data needs to be stored alongside the components or dies and the best way to do so in order to avoid losing data during the storage period. As defined in this document, long-term storage refers to a duration that can be more than twelve months for products scheduled for long duration storage. Philosophy, good working practice, and general means to facilitate the successful long-term-storage of electronic components are also addressed. NOTE: In IEC 62435 (all parts), the term "components" is used interchangeably with dice, wafers, passives and packaged devices.

1.1 This guide covers the use of overtesting in order to reduce the required number of parts that must be tested to meet a given quality acceptance standard. Overtesting is testing a sample number of parts at a stress level higher than their specification stress in order to reduce the amount of necessary data taking. This guide discusses when and how overtesting may be applied to forming probabilistic estimates for the survival of electronic piece parts subjected to radiation stress. Some knowledge of the probability distribution governing the stress-to-failure of the parts is necessary, although exact knowledge may be replaced by over-conservative estimates of this distribution. 1.2 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1   Scope This International Standard specifies designation and marking codes for capacitors and resistors. It provides coding methods for the resistance or capacitance value and its tolerance, including colour coding for resistors. It provides coding for parameters specific either to capacitors, like e.g. the dielectric material, or to resistors, like e.g. the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). It also provides date code systems suitable for the marking of small components.
