This International Standard establishes metric mounting dimensions for medium series cylinders as required for interchangeability of commonly used hydraulic cylinders. The medium series dimensions are applicable to both round or square head cylinders thus allowing a wider range of applications. They permit larger ports with longer cushions that are particularly suitable for applications requiring higher velocity and rapid decelerations. NOTE — This International Standard allows manufacturers of hydraulic equipment freedom in the design of metric cylinders and does not restrict technical development but provides basic guidelines.

This International Standard provides formulations, mixing and vulcanization procedures for three types of elastomeric compositions: a) acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR 1); b) fluoroelastomers (FPM 1); c) ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM 1). These procedures evaluate the effect of mineral-based and fireresistant hydraulic fluids upon such compositions by measure-ment, under controlled conditions, of physical properties of standard test pieces of the suitable test elastomer before and after immersion in the fluids. The elastomeric materials used in these formulations are sensitive to fluid variations and have comparatively high swelling characteristics. Stable cure systems should be used to give adeqnate storage life. NOTE — This International Standard does not provide formulations of elastomeric materials for actual service. The changes in volume, hardness, tensile strength and elongation at break [which standard test specimens of the suitable standard test elastomer undergo when immersed in a certain fluid under specified test conditions (see table 7)] establish an elastomer compatibility index (ECI) for this fluid, which can be expressed in the format given in clause 5. The ECI (which should be quoted by oil suppliers) allows selec-tion of suitable combinations of fluids and elastomeric materials without prolonged testing. In the case of mineral-based oils, it will be possible to predict the percentage volume change of commercial rubbers (see annex A). NOTE — The ECI may provide enough information so as to eliminate totally unsuitable elastomer/fluid combinations without having to resort to extensive screening tests. Representative standard compositions of various types of elastomers permit evaluation of the effect of hydraulic fluids on such compositions and comparison with commercial elastomeric materials for actual service. They would also assist producers of additives and hydraulic fluids in the development of hydraulic fluids compatible with different elastomer types.

This International Standard specifies a procedure for predicting the bulk moduli of a petroleum or hydrocarbon oils used as fluids (in the absence of air bubbles) in hydraulic fluid power systems and for other purposes. The standard provides graphical techniques to obtain moduli of these fluids without extended calculations and with such accuracy as would be required for the practical calculation of hydraulic system parameters.

This International Standard specifies a conventional system for identifying fluid power cylinder dimensions and mounting dimensions thereof. Such a system will be composed of a) a letter code for identifying — mounting dimensions — envelope dimensions — cylinder fitting dimensions; b) a code for identifying cylinder mounting types. This International Standard does not represent a standard list of all cylinder mounting types. The codes indicated in this International Standard are also not to be considered as complete for the development of future interchangeability standards. It establishes uniform descriptions for dimensions and achieves a conformity of language. Although this International Standard presents a code and a method of dimensioning, it is not intended that all dimensions shall be standardized. The same codes can be used for analogous dimensions when this involves neither confusion nor misunderstanding.

This International Standard lays down the dimensions and tolerances so as to ensure the interchangeability of pneumatic quick-action coupling plugs. It also lays down specifications and application guidelines, and specifies the tests to be applied to the plugs together with sockets. NOTE — The construction and dimensions of sockets are left to the manufacturer's option. This International Standard applies to cylindrtcal quick-action couplings for maximum working pressures of 10 bar1), 16 bar and 25 bar (1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and2,5 MPa) for use in pneumatic fluid power systems. NOTE — Quick-action couplings with snut -off valves for equipment for welding, cutting and related processes are covered by ISO 7289, Quick-action couplings with shut-off valve for welding, cutting and allied processes.2) This International Standard applies only to the dimensional criteria of products manufactured in accordance with this Inter-national Standard. 1 This part of ISO 6194 lays down the nominal dimensions relating to rotary shaft tip type seals suitabte for shafts from 6 to 400 mm diameter and accompanying housings from 16 to 440 mm. Seals of this type are not normally surtable for high pressure. 2 This part of ISO 6194 also includes dimensional limits for the shafts and housings to assure interchangeability of seals made by different seal manufacturers. 3 The recommended tolerances are also given for the principal seal dimensions. 4 The six basic types of seals covered by this International Standard are described and shown in figure 1. 5 The annex includes a recommended form for reaching agreement between purchaser and manufacturer.

This International Standard lays down the dimensions and tolerances of housings for wiper rings used in reciprocating rod applications for fluid power cylinders. The range of sizes is from 6 mm to 360 mm rod diameters. It includes the following three housing designs : — Type A : recess housings with undercut or separate cover to retain elastomeric wipers [see figure 1 and table 2 for normal series (pre-ferred)|; — Type B : open recess housings for wipers having integral rigid reinforcement, that are a press-fit in the housing (see figure 2 and table 3); — Type C : recess housings with undercut to retain elastomeric wipers (see figure 3 and table 4 for reduced dimension series — recom-mended for use with cylinders conforming to ISO 6020/2). This International Standard does not specify the style, configurations, materials or performance rating for the wiper ring.

This International Standard specifies methods for testing electrohydraulic servovalves, namely production acceptance, and type (or qualification) tests. Unless otherwise specified, the tests are carried out using commercially avaHable mineral-based hydraulic fluids. This International Standard does not specify methods for determining the characteristics associated with external closed-loop control systems. 1 This International Standard establishes the dimensions and associated tolerances for a series of housings for hydraulic cylinder piston seals that incorporate bearing rings. 2 It specifies the dimensions for a range of seal housings for cylinders of 25 to 500 mm. 3 It is not the intention of this International Standard to set forth details of seal design, since the manner of construction of seals varies with each manufacturer. This International Standard establishes the mounting dimensions required for interchangeability of rod end plain eyes of hydraulic cylinders. The rod end plain eyes have been designed specifically for use with cylinders manufactured in accordance with ISO 6020/1 and ISO 6022, but this does not limit their application. These plain bearing end eyes are used on piston rods of hydraulic cylinders for mechanically transmitting the cylinder force. The design of these eyes is based on the maximum forces resulting from the specified internal diameters of the cylinders and pressures according to ISO 3320 and ISO 3322.
