1.1 This specification covers the optical and aesthetic quality requirements for pyrolytic and vacuum deposition coatings applied on flat glass for use in building glazing. 1.2 The coatings are applied on the glass using either pyrolytic or vacuum sputtering deposition methods to control solar heat gain, energy performance, comfort level, and condensation and to enhance the aesthetic of the building. 1.3 This specification addresses blemishes related to the coating only. It does not address glass blemishes, applied ceramic frits to spandrel glass, and organic film opacifiers. 1.4 The Nonuniformity for Coated Glass requirements, given in 6.10, pertain to glazing units of vertical and sloped orientations as installed in the building exterior. 1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This proof load test method is a procedure to determine, with a 90 % confidence level, if the probability of breakage under design loads for a given population of glass specimens is less than a selected value. It is not intended to be a design standard for determining the load resistance of glass. Practice E1300 shall be used for this purpose. 1.2 This test method describes apparatus and procedures to select and apply a proof load to glass specimens, to determine the number of glass specimens to be tested, and to evaluate statistically the probability of breakage. This test method may be conducted using the standard test frame specified herein or a test frame of the user’s design. 1.3 Proper use of this test method requires a knowledge of the principles of pressure measurement and an understanding of recommended glazing practices. 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 7. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers the quality requirements of flat, transparent, clear, and tinted glass. This glass is intended to be used primarily for architectural glazing products including: coated glass, insulating glass units, laminated glass, mirrors, spandrel glass, or similar uses. The monolithic flat glass shall be supplied as cut sizes or stock sheets. Two types of glasses shall be used: Type I which is a transparent flat glass and Type II which is a patterned and wired flat glass. Type II glass shall have clear and tinted classes while Type I glass shall only have the clear class. Different test methods for Type I glass shall be performed in order to determine the following properties: point blemish and linear blemish content, ream distortion, string distortion, line distortion, dimension, squareness, reflectance, and transmittance. As for the type II glass the following properties shall be determined after different tests: associated distortion and blemish appraisal, dimension, point blemish, reflectance, and transmittance.

ISO 1288-5:2016 specifies a method for determining the comparative bending strength of glass for use in buildings, excluding the effects of the edges. See ISO 1288‑1, 5.1.4 for an explanation as to why this test method should only be used for comparing the strength of types of glass and not for assessing strength for design purposes. The limitations of this part of ISO 1288 are described in ISO 1288‑1. ISO 1288‑1 should be read in conjunction with this part of ISO 1288. This test method is not suitable for patterned glass.

This specification covers the standard for bent glass proposed for use in general building construction, furniture, display, and various other non-automotive applications. When the glass is specified as chemically strengthened, heat-strengthened, or fully tempered, the fabrication processes must be completed prior to the strengthening. The glass specimen shall also undergo impact testing for safety glazing.

This European Standard specifies requirements and a test method related to resistance to solar radiation for coated glass for use in buildings. This test is aimed at evaluating if the exposure to solar radiation over an extended period of time produces any appreciable change in light transmittance and solar transmittance of the coated glass as well as a reduction of the infrared reflectance in the case of low emissivity coatings. This European Standard applies to Class C and D coatings as defined in EN 1096-1 and used in insulating glass units.

ISO 1288-3:2016 specifies a method for determining the bending strength, including the effects of the edges, of flat glass for use in building. The method specified can also be used to determine the bending strength of the edges of glass separately. The limitations of this part of ISO 1288 are described in ISO 1288‑1.

This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods related to artificial weathering and abrasion of coatings on glass for use in buildings. These tests are aimed at evaluating the resistance of the coating to attack by simulated natural weathering conditions as well as to abrasion. This attack can be considered as representative of that which could be found on the external and/or internal face of the glazing. This European Standard applies to Class A, B and S coatings, as described in EN 1096-1.

This European Standard describes the test method for the determination of gas leakage rate and specifies the requirements for limit values for gas leakage rate and gas concentration for gas filled insulating glass units made a) in accordance with EN 1279 1:2018 and manufactured to EN 1279 6:2018, or b) for the purpose to demonstrate that components (e.g. edge seals or spacers) will allow the insulating glass unit to conform to the requirements given in EN 1279 1:2018, Clause 6.

This European Standard specifies tolerances, flatness, edgework, fragmentation and physical and mechanical characteristics of monolithic flat thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass for use in buildings. Information on curved thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass is given in Annex A, but this product does not form part of this European Standard. Other requirements, not specified in this European Standard, can apply to thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass which is incorporated into assemblies, e.g. laminated glass or insulating glass units, or undergo an additional treatment, e.g. coating. The additional requirements are specified in the appropriate glass product standard. Thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass, in this case, does not lose its bending strength characteristics and its resistance to temperature differentials. Surface finished glasses (e.g. sandblasted, acid etched) after toughening are not covered by this European Standard.
