This International Standard specifies an engineering method for measuring workers’ exposure to noise in a working environment and calculating the noise exposure level. This International Standard deals with A-weighted levels but is applicable also to C-weighted levels. Three different strategies for measurement are specified. The method is useful where a determination of noise exposure to engineering grade is required, e.g. for detailed noise exposure studies or epidemiological studies of hearing damage or other adverse effects. The measuring process requires observation and analysis of the noise exposure conditions so that the quality of the measurements can be controlled. This International Standard provides methods for estimating the uncertainty of the results. This International Standard is not intended for assessment of masking of oral communication or assessment of infrasound, ultrasound and non-auditory effects of noise. It does not apply to the measurement of the noise exposure of the ear when hearing protectors are worn. Results of the measurements performed in accordance with this International Standard can provide useful information when defining priorities for noise control measures.

This European Standard specifies the performance requirements, test methods and marking requirements for valved filtering half masks incorporating either gas or combined filters as respiratory protective devices except for escape purposes. It does not cover gas filtering half masks which do not have valves or are fitted only with exhalation valves. It does not cover devices designed for use in circumstances where there is or might be an oxygen deficiency (oxygen less than a volume fraction of 17 %). Laboratory and practical performance tests are included for the assessment of compliance with the requirements.

The scope of this European Standard is to provide a general procedure in order to assess workers’ exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields in a work place to demonstrate compliance with exposure limit values and action values as stated in the Council and European Parliament Directive 2004/40/EC. The purpose of this European Standard is to - specify how to perform an initial assessment of the levels of workers' exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF), if necessary including specific exposure assessment of such levels by measurements and/or calculations, - determine whether it is necessary to carry out a detailed risk assessment of EMF exposure. This European Standard can be used by employers for the risk assessment and, where required, measurement and/or calculation of the exposure of workers. Based on specific workplace standards it can be determined whether preventive measures/actions must be taken to comply with the provisions of the Directive. The frequencies covered are from 0 Hz to 300 GHz. NOTE 1 This European Standard is written under Mandate M/351 and relates to the exposure limits as specified in the Directive 2004/40/EC. It is intended to protect workers from risks to their health and safety arising or likely to arise from exposure to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz) during their work. However, this and other directives may include additional measures for the protection of specific groups of workers and/or specific work places for which the employer is required to investigate other protective measures as a part of the overall risk assessment. See Annex A. NOTE 2 The Council and European Parliament Directive 2004/40/EC will be transposed into national legislation in all the EU member countries. It is recommended that users of this standard consult the national legislation related to this transposition in order to identify the national regulations and requirements. This standard deals with the emission of radiation from machinery. This European Standard gives advice to manufacturers for the construction of safe machinery, if no relevant C-type standard exists. This radiation emission may be functional for processing or may be undesirable. The issues of electromagnetic compatibility are not addressed in the standard. This European Standard is intended to give advice to C-type standardization groups, on how to identify radiation emissions or fields1, how to determine their significance and intensity, how to assess the possible risks and what means may be used to avoid or reduce radiation emissions. This advice should be elaborated in C-type standards for specific classes of machines as assessable requirements. This standard deals with the emission of all types of electromagnetic non-ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation may be dealt with in other documents or in the future revisions. This standard does not deal with the emission of laser radiation. Radiation sources fixed to a machine which are used only for lighting are excluded from the scope of this standard. This standard applies to machinery as defined in clause 3.1 of EN 292-1:1991.

The purpose of this European standard is to provide means to enable manufacturers of machinery concerned by a radiation hazard to design and manufacture efficient safeguards against radiations. Specific technical details of the design of shields for the different types of radiation and machines will be provided in other standards. This European standard applies to machinery as defined by EN 292. Part 1 of this standard contains the general principles of risk assessment of radiation emission by machinery. Details of the measurement of the radiation emission are given in Part 2 of this standard. This standard deals with a design strategy for reducing the radiation flux by attenuation or screening.

This International Standard applies to electronic and electrical equipment for which no dedicated product- or product family standard regarding human exposure to electromagnetic fields applies. The frequency range covered is 0 Hz to 300 GHz. The object of this generic standard is to provide assessment methods and criteria to evaluate such equipment against basic restrictions or reference levels on exposure of the general public related to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields and induced and contact current. NOTE This standard is intended to cover both intentional and non-intentional radiators. If the equipment complies with the requirements in another relevant standard, e.g. EN 50371 covering low power equipment, then the requirements of this standard (IEC 62311) are considered to be met and the application of this standard to that equipment is not necessary. See also Clause 7.2.

This International Standard deals with electromagnetic fields up to 300 GHz and defines methods for evaluating the electric field strength and magnetic flux density around household and similar electrical appliances, including the conditions during testing as well as measuring distances and positions. Appliances may incorporate motors, heating elements or their combination, may contain electric or electronic circuitry, and may be powered by the mains, by batteries, or by any other electrical power source. Appliances include such equipment as household electrical appliances, electric tools and electric toys. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be approached by the public, or may be used by laymen, are within the scope of this standard. This standard does not apply to: – apparatus designed exclusively for heavy industrial purposes; – apparatus intended to be part of the fixed electrical installation of buildings (such as fuses, circuit breakers, cables and switches); – radio and television receivers, audio and video equipment, and electronic music instruments; – medical electrical appliances; – personal computers and similar equipment; – radio transmitters; – apparatus designed to be used exclusively in vehicles; The fields of multifunction equipment which is subjected simultaneously to different clauses of this standard and/or other standards shall be assessed using the provisions of each clause/standard for the relevant functions in operation. Abnormal operation of the appliances is not taken into consideration. This standard includes specific elements to assess human exposure: – definition of sensor; – definition of measuring methods; – definition of operating mode for appliance under test; – definition of measuring distance and position. The measurement methods specified are valid from 10 Hz to 400 kHz. In the frequency range above 400 kHz and below 10 Hz appliances in the scope of this standard are deemed to comply without testing unless otherwise specified in IEC 60335 series.

This standard specifies specific functional requirements and a product labelling system applicable to a range of temporary and permanent passive guards (in the following called screens) for protection against laser radiation. This standard includes test methods for testing functional performance and also the specification of the user documentation to be supplied with the product. The screens are designed to protect the user from uncontrolled emission of direct and/or diffuse radiation for a defined exposure to lasers, based on the necessary functional requirements for any particular application being determined by risk assessment principles. This standard applies to supervised screens for installations in working places at which laser radiation up to a maximum mean power of 100 W or single pulse energy of 30 J occurs within the spectral range between 180 nm (0,18 IJm) and 106 nm (1000 IJm). This standard applies to the protection against laser radiation only. This standard does not apply to other hazards including hazards from secondary radiation that can arise during, for example, material processing. This standard gives guidance on how to select such screens. The following are not considered to be within the scope of the standard: -- laser enclosures and housings that are supplied as part of the laser product or are supplied to be fitted to a laser system to form a laser product (according to IEC 60 825-1:1998); -- any screen whose protective properties are limited to a restricted range of angles of incidence (e.g. some interference filters)

ISO 21482:2007 specifies the symbol to warn of the presence of a dangerous level of ionizing radiation from a high-level sealed radioactive source that can cause death or serious injury if handled carelessly. This symbol is not intended to replace the basic ionizing radiation symbol (ISO 361), but to supplement it by providing further information on the danger associated with the source and the necessity for untrained or uninformed members of the public to stay away from it. This symbol is recommended for use with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Category 1, 2, and 3 sealed radioactive sources. These sources are defined by the IAEA as having the ability to cause death or serious injuries.
