This standard deals with the emission of radiation from machinery. This European Standard gives advice to manufacturers for the construction of safe machinery, if no relevant C-type standard exists. This radiation emission may be functional for processing or may be undesirable. The issues of electromagnetic compatibility are not addressed in the standard. This European Standard is intended to give advice to C-type standardization groups, on how to identify radiation emissions or fields1, how to determine their significance and intensity, how to assess the possible risks and what means may be used to avoid or reduce radiation emissions. This advice should be elaborated in C-type standards for specific classes of machines as assessable requirements. This standard deals with the emission of all types of electromagnetic non-ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation may be dealt with in other documents or in the future revisions. This standard does not deal with the emission of laser radiation. Radiation sources fixed to a machine which are used only for lighting are excluded from the scope of this standard. This standard applies to machinery as defined in clause 3.1 of EN 292-1:1991.

1.1 This test method covers a laboratory procedure to determine the hot-surface ignition temperature of dust layers, that is, measuring the minimum temperature at which a dust layer will self-heat. The test consists of a dust layer heated on a hot plate.1.2 Data obtained from this test method provide a relative measure of the hot-surface ignition temperature of a dust layer.1.3 This test method should be used to measure and describe the properties of materials in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire hazard risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test method may be used as elements of a fire risk assessment that takes into account all of the factors that are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard risk of a particular end use product.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 8.

This standard specifies specific functional requirements and a product labelling system applicable to a range of temporary and permanent passive guards (in the following called screens) for protection against laser radiation. This standard includes test methods for testing functional performance and also the specification of the user documentation to be supplied with the product. The screens are designed to protect the user from uncontrolled emission of direct and/or diffuse radiation for a defined exposure to lasers, based on the necessary functional requirements for any particular application being determined by risk assessment principles. This standard applies to supervised screens for installations in working places at which laser radiation up to a maximum mean power of 100 W or single pulse energy of 30 J occurs within the spectral range between 180 nm (0,18 μm) and 106 nm (1000 μm). This standard applies to the protection against laser radiation only. This standard does not apply to other hazards including hazards from secondary radiation that can arise during, for example, material processing. This standard gives guidance on how to select such screens. The following are not considered to be within the scope of the standard: ? laser enclosures and housings that are supplied as part of the laser product or are supplied to be fitted to a laser system to form a laser product (according to IEC 60 825-1:1998); ? any screen whose protective properties are limited to a restricted range of angles of incidence (e.g. some interference filters)

1.1 This classification identifies potential concerns and effects that could result from direct contact with thermal insulation materials and accessories, or be caused by indirect action of events such as aging, fire, or physical disturbance. 1.2 Intent of Classification: 1.2.1 It is the intent of this classification to alert others to potential concerns, effects, hazards, or risk. 1.2.2 It is not the intent of this classification to establish the degree of risk or hazard or limiting values of potential hazards. 1.2.3 It is not the intent of this classification to establish or recommend methods or markings to reduce or mitigate the potential; however, it is recognized that correct procedures and precautionary measures can substantially reduce or eliminate some of the potential concerns, effects, hazards, or risks. Note 1-See Appendix X1 for commentary. 1.3 This classification recognizes the responsibility of producers and users, as appropriate, to: ( ) provide information on known effects or hazards, ( ) advise on established safety and health practices, and ( ) determine applicable regulatory requirements. 1.4 This classification does not address the health and safety concerns of thermal insulation materials and accessories during manufacture. 1.5 Omission of an item from this classification does not imply an absence of potential concerns or effects. 1.6 There is no importance in the order of listing.

This part of ISO 11933 specifies the designations and characteristics of the various transfer systems which can be mounted on containment enclosures either used alone or placed behind a shielding wall. These transfer systems may also be used directly on shielding walls made of metal (carbon steel or stainless steal) or of concrete. The systems covered by this part of ISO 11933 are — plain doors, — airlock chambers, — double door transfer systems, — leaktight connections for waste drums. Some of these systems, such as plain doors, airlock chambers or double door transfer systems can be used in addition to components defined in ISO 11933-1 or ISO 11933-2 (glove/bag ports, bungs for glove/bag ports, support rings, welded bags, etc.). Large size doors and airlock chambers, used for personnel or large equipment, are not within the scope of this part of ISO 11933.

This part of ISO 11933 specifies requirements for the selection, construction and use of the following leaktight components fitted on glove/bag ports and/or ejectable support rings used in containment enclosures and dealt with in ISO 11933-1: — gloves, — welded bags, — gaiters for remote-handling tongs, — manipulator gaiters. Tong and manipulator gaiters are respectively the protection sleeves for remote-handling tongs and mechanical master-slave manipulators. Equipment which differs from those listed in this part of ISO 11933 can be used, but their design criteria should respect those given in this document.

This part of ISO 11933 specifies the designation and characteristics of the various components for containment enclosures which are fixed to the containment enclosure wall or which can be used in conjunction with the lead shielding units described in ISO 7212 and ISO 9404 and used in the construction of containment enclosures for protection against ionizing radiation. These components may also be used alone, without any shielded enclosure. In addition, some similar units are included which can be used with or without shielding, but not in conjunction with units given in ISO 7212 and ISO 9404. The units covered by this part of ISO 11933 are: - glove/bag ports, - bungs for glove/bag ports, - enclosure rings, - interchangeable units which are either leaktight ejectable units (support rings for gloves, welded bags, gaiters for remote-handling tongs and for manipulators, circular windows) or rigid plugs or securing units (securing rings), Independent systems which do not use the same support ring are described separately in this part of ISO 11933 (support rings for manipulator and tong gaiters and for circular windows and rigid plugs). The associated leaktight components (gloves, welded bags, gaiters for remote-handling tongs and for manipulators) are described in ISO 11933-2. Transfer systems (plain doors, double doors, airlock chambers, leaktight connections for waste drums) are dealt with in ISO 11933-3. Accessories for the ventilation of containment enclosures such as filters and traps, pressure regulators and safety valves, are dealt with in ISO 11933-4. Penetrations for electrical and fluid circuits will be described in ISO 11933-5. The elements constituting the framework of containment enclosures (metallic walls, framework, transparent panels) are dealt with in ISO 10648-1.

Describes three methods (the octave-band, HML and SNR methods) for estimating the A-weighted sound pressure levels effective when hearing protectors are worn. The methods are applicable to either the sound pressure level or the equivalent continuous sound pressure level of the noise. Although primarily intended for steady noise exposures, the methods are also applicable to noises containing impulsive components. They are not suitable for use with peak sound pressure level measurements.

The principle of the method specified is isokinetically withdrawing a known volume from a moving gas stream, passing the sampled gas through a filter medium to remove particulate matter (including fibres), treating the filter to make it transparent when viewed under a microscope and counting the number of fibres in a precise number of fields viewed using a phase-contrast optical microscope. The method may be used to determine fibre concentrations in flowing gas streams in ducts, chimneys, or flues from a wide range of industrial processes.
