This code provides the procedures, direction, and guidance for the accurate determination, via testing, of the maximum repeatable load change ramp rate, startup load change rate or shutdown load change rate of a power plant. It is applicable to all electrical generating facilities, independent of fuel source or prime movers. The load change rate is distinguished by starting from one operating point at steady state condition and transitioning to another. Startup commences at a shutdown condition, or intermediary startup condition, and proceeds to a defined running condition. Shutdown begins at a running condition and proceeds to a shutdown condition or intermediary shutdown condition. Measurements of actual net generation as a function of time are the primary test parameters. Additional data and information will be collected as part of this analysis to determine the long and short term effects of various ramp rates on the equipment and systems in the power plant of interest. This information includes and is not limited to design specifications and actual operating conditions. This Code is applicable to all electrical generating facilities, independent of fuel source or prime movers. This Code is directed at providing guidelines for measuring the machinery impact of controlled transients that are initiated by the operator. It is not the intent of this Code to address uncontrolled transients that may be initiated by system activity such as load rejection or governor response to grid frequency disturbances.

This Standard provides minimum requirements for the design and erection of high voltage installations in systems with nominal voltages above 1 kV a.c. and nominal frequency up to and including 60 Hz, so as to provide safety and proper functioning for the use intended. For the purposes of this Standard, a high voltage installation is considered to be: (a) An electricity network substation, under the control of an electricity network operator or entity authorized by a licence or other legal instrument to convey electricity. (b) The high voltage parts of an electrical installation of a power station including all auxiliary systems and interconnecting lines and cables between power stations if on the same site. (c) The high voltage parts of an electrical installation that are not covered in (a) and (b) above. This may include but not be limited to consumer and customer electrical installations serving premises such as factories, commercial facilities, industrial plants, institutional facilities and mine sites. This Standard does not apply to the design and erection of any of the following: (A) Overhead lines and underground cables between separate installations.

The scope of this International Standard covers turbines, storage pumps and pump-turbines of all sizes and of the following types: • Francis; • Kaplan; • propeller; • Pelton (turbines only); • Bulb. Wherever turbines or turbine components are referred to in the text of this guide, they shall be interpreted also to mean the comparable units or components of storage pumps or pumpturbines as the case requires. The Guide also identifies without detailed discussion, other powerhouse equipment that could affect or be affected by a turbine, storage pump, or pump-turbine rehabilitation. The object of this guide is to assist in identifying, evaluating and executing rehabilitation and performance improvement projects for hydraulic turbines, storage pumps and pump-turbines. This guide can be used by owners, consultants, and suppliers to define: • needs and economics for rehabilitation and performance improvement; • scope of work; • specifications; • evaluation of results. The Guide is intended to be: • an aid in the decision process; • an extensive source of information on rehabilitation; • an identification of the key milestones in the rehabilitation process; • an identification of the points that should be addressed in the decision processes. The Guide is not intended to be a detailed engineering manual nor a maintenance guide.

This guide is intended to aid the equipment manufacturer, installer, and turbine operator in coordinating their efforts to obtain and maintain clean lubrication and control systems. The flushing and cleaning philosophies stated in this guide are applicable to both large and small lubrication systems. Clean lubrication systems result from proper system design and good planning, execution, and communication by all involved during commissioning. No phase of these procedures should be undertaken without a thorough understanding of the possible effects of improper system preparation. The installation, cleaning, and flushing of the equipment should not be entrusted to persons lacking in experience. Because of the knowledge and specialized equipment that is required, the operator may wish to employ an outside specialist contractor for the system flushing. Review of this guide can provide guidelines for discussion with prospective contractors.1.1 This guide covers types of contaminants, oil purification devices, contamination monitoring, contamination control during building or refurbishing of turbine systems, lubrication system flushing, and maintenance of pure lubrication oil.1.2 To obtain maximum operating life and reliability, or lubricants and system, it is vital that the turbine lubrication system has pure oil. This guide is intended to aid the equipment manufacturer, installer, and turbine operator in coordinating their efforts to obtain and maintain clean lubrication and control systems. These systems may be on land or marine turbine generators and propulsion and mechanical drive equipment. This guide is generalized due to variations in the type of equipment, builder''s practices, and operating conditions.1.3 This guide primarily addresses petroleum based lubricating oil. For systems using nonpetroleum based fluids, this guide may not be appropriate. For nonpetroleum products, consult the equipment and fluid manufacturers.1.4 This guide is applicable to both large and small lubrication systems. Some equipment specified herein, however, may not be appropriate for all systems. Moreover, in situations where specific guidelines and procedures are provided by the equipment manufacturer, such procedures should take precedence over the recommendations of this guide. This standard does not purport to address the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This standard gives guidance on writing the technical specification for the procurement of stationary batteries and chargers for use in electricity generating stations (power stations). This Guide for procurement is not applicable to equipment for use in the nuclear reactor plant area of nuclear power stations. Other possible applications of such equipment have not been considered in the preparation of this Guide. This Guide covers stationary lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries, chargers, battery accommodation, battery main connections and battery accessories. This equipment usually forms part of either a centralized or unit d.c. supplies system for duties such as switchgear closing/tripping, protection, control, alarm, instrumentation and telecommunication supplies, emergency lighting and emergency drives. The equipment covered by this Guide is defined by its function rather than design type. Therefore, the guidance to the specification is stated in performance terms rather than being specified by a detailed description of the equipment to be supplied. This Guide indicates to potential purchasers how their specification should be prepared so that - the equipment type and capacity interfaces correctly with other elements of the systems, - predicted performance is achieved, - ancillary equipment is property sized, - reliability, availability and safety requirements are achieved, - proper consideration is given to the evaluation process and the quality measures to be applied. This Guide does not determine the type of specification (e.g. detailed, performance, functional) or the extent of supply for any given contract which is normally decided on the basis of the purchaser's project strategy. It does not cover - any commercial, contractual or legal issues which are normally in separate parts of an enquiry, - any allocation of responsibilities which are determined by the contract. This Guide does not prescribe the arrangement of the documents in the enquiry. NOTE: As a comprehensive European environmental policy is still under preparation, this Guide does not address the environmental implications of the equipment.
