This International Standard specifies requirements which it is necessary for a measuring instrument for vibration severity of machines to meet if inaccuracies of measurement made on the casing of machines, particularly when making repeated measurements for trend monitoring of a certain machine, are not to exceed a specific value. The instruments covered by this International Standard give direct indication or recording of root-mean-square (r.m.s.) vibration velocity that is defined as a measurement unit. NOTE 1 A method of checking true r.m.s. indication is described in Annex A. This method is mainly retained for instruments not based on modern analogue to digital conversion and numerical calculation of r.m.s., but can also be applied to instruments which are so based. NOTE 2 Subject to adaptation of the measurement frequency range, these instruments can be used for other applications where similar accuracy of measurement is required, measurement of vibration velocity of structures, tunnels, bridges, etc. Optionally phase measurements may be included.

Transfer Standards8212;One purpose of this test method is for the direct calibration of displacement transducers for use as secondary standards for the calibration of AE sensors for use in nondestructive evaluation. For this purpose, the transfer standard should be high fidelity and very well behaved and understood. If this can be established, the stated accuracy should apply over the full frequency range up to 1 MHz. Note 18212;The stated accuracy applies only if the transfer standard returns to quiescence, following the transient input, before any wave reflected from the boundary of the calibration block returns to the transfer standard (8764;100 μs). For low frequencies with periods on the order of the time window, this condition is problematical to prove. Applications Sensors8212;This test method may also be used for the calibration of AE sensors for use in nondestructive evaluation. Some of these sensors are less well behaved than devices suitable for a transfer standard. The stated accuracy for such devices applies in the range of 100 kHz to 1 MHz and with less accuracy below 100 kHz.1.1 This test method covers the requirements for the absolute calibration of acoustic emission (AE) sensors. The calibration yields the frequency response of a transducer to waves, at a surface, of the type normally encountered in acoustic emission work. The transducer voltage response is determined at discrete frequency intervals of approximately 10 kHz up to 1 MHz. The input is a given well-established dynamic displacement normal to the mounting surface. The units of the calibration are output voltage per unit mechanical input (displacement, velocity, or acceleration). 1.2 Units8212;The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This part of ISO 11546 specifies laboratory methods for the determination of sound insulation performance (insertion loss) of small machine enclosures. It applies to a total enclosure only and not to the individual panels from which the enclosure is made. The measurement methods specified in this part of ISO 11546 are based on International Standard in the series ISO 3740,ISO 9614 and ISO 11200 (see table 1).Depending on the method chosen,the sound insulation performance (insertion loss) of the enclosure is determined in terms of the reduction of sound power level or sound pressure level.Methods are given for measurements where the enclosure surrounds the actual sound source (machine).Where these methods are not practicable ,alternative measurements can be performed using a reciprocity method (see definition 3.11 and subclause 7.2) or an artificial sound source.

This part of IEC 60645 applies to instruments designed for the measurement of auditory evoked potentials from the inner ear, the auditory nerve and the brainstem, evoked by acoustic and/or vibratory stimuli of short duration.
