This European Standard specifies the basis of an administrative process for exchange of data such as technical drawings, design parts lists (see EN 15016-2) and other related technical documents for railway applications. This European Standard applies to all railway organisations and parties concerned with the exchange of technical documents like drawings, parts lists and related technical documents that are officially numbered. Furthermore, it applies to suppliers preparing these documents on behalf of the railway companies or railway network users. The basic requirements apply to all drawings, parts lists and related technical documents independently of the type of data e.g. graphical information (images), database types or types of data carriers. These rules are applied by all railway companies and railway industry in the countries of the European Union (EU). Alternatively, the application of these rules can be agreed between contract partners who are settled in the EU and partners who are not settled in the EU by means of a contract and/or mutual agreement.

This European Standard establishes an evaluation procedure for determining equivalent conicity. A benchmark calculation is specified to achieve comparable results on a consistent basis for the equivalent conicity, which may be calculated by different methods not given in this European Standard. This European Standard also proposes possible calculation methods. Informative examples of the use of the Klingel formula (see Annex B) and linear regression of the Δr-function (see Annex C) are included in this European Standard. This European Standard includes reference profiles, profile combinations, tolerances and reference results with tolerance limits, which allow the user to assess the acceptability of a measuring and calculation system including random- and grid- errors of the measuring system. It sets down the principles of calculation that need to be followed but does not impose any particular numerical calculation method. This European Standard does not define limits for the equivalent conicity and gives no tolerances for the rail profile and the wheel profile to achieve acceptable results for the conicity. For purposes outside the scope of this European Standard (e.g. simulation of vehicle behaviour) it can be useful or necessary to use more sophisticated theories. These methods are not within the scope of this European Standard. For the application of this European Standard some general recommendations are given in Annex I.

The GA gauge may be implemented in the more or less long term on all railway lines. The GB qauge, which incorporates the GA gauge, is relevant for short or medium-term projects involving a maximum number of lines in order to develop a cohestve network over a relatively extensive area. The GC gauge, which incorporates the GA and GB gauges, is relevant for new lines and major rebuilding projects (for example: tunnels) on specially-targeted existing lines. For the GA and GB gauges, a transitional phase may be allowed during which the standard loads defined in Appendix see page 39 may be routed under the responsibility of the railway concerned, which should then ascertain, through appropriate calculations, that there exists maximum structure clearance. NB: Lines accepting such loads may be called GAO and GBO. The Gl3 gauge may be used on existing or future lines. It can be achieved at a lower cost than the gauges for lower parts defined in UIC Leaflet 505-4 since it primarily encounters occasional obstructions without consequence for larger obstacles such as platforms and structures. The GB1 and GB2 gauges shown in Appendix C - page 47 are options that involve the upgrading of specific lines when the GB gauge is not appropriate. The GB2 gauge incorporates the GB1 gauge, which in turn incorporates the GB gauge.

The gauges used at international level are classified as follows: The minimum gauge to be implemented on all lines: G1 This gauge is the international minimum that must be provided on all lines (except in Great Britain, see UIC Leaflet 503, see Bibliography - page 35). Enlarged gauges provided by some IMs: G2 G2 gauge is a raised gauge used by different IMs (mostly in eastern Europe) based on the basis of bi-lateral or multilateral agreements (see UIC Leaflet 505-1). Enlarged gauges necessary for certain well defined routes: GA, GB, GC, GB1 and GB2 (see UIC Leaflet 506, see Bibliography - page 35). 2.2 - Pantographs The clearance needing to be achieved and maintained to enable pantographs and live roof-mounted equipment to run on electrified lines must comply with the rules in point 9,2 - page 24. 2.3 - Platforms Platforms must be positioned in accordance with the rules in point 8 - page t 6.

This standard applies to all electronic equipment for control, regulation, protection, supply, etc., installed on rail vehicles and associated with: - either the accumulator battery of the vehicle; - or a low voltage power supply source with or without a direct connection to the contact system (transformer, potentiometer device, auxiliary supply); with the exception of electronic power circuits, which conform to EN 50207. This standard covers the conditions of operation, design, construction, and testing of electronic equipment, as well as basic hardware and software requirements considered necessary for competent, reliable equipment. Additional requirements in other standards or individual specifications may complement this standard, if they are justified. Specific requirements related to practices necessary to assure defined levels of functional safety are to be determined in accordance with 4.6.3.1 and 4.6.3.2 of EN 50126 and its informative Annex A. Software safety integrity level of 1 or higher shall only be considered when it is shown that a residual safety risk remains and that it has to be carried by the software driven programmable electronic system. In such a case (i.e. software safety integrity level 1 or higher), EN 50128 is applicable. For the purpose of this standard, electronic equipment is defined as equipment mainly composed of semiconductor devices and recognized associated components. These components will mainly be mounted on printed boards.

This Technical Report has been written to define the interference limits of existing track circuits used on European railways. The purpose of this Technical Report is to provide an overview, a reference and a source of information for other specifications and specifications that are presently in preparation. As required by the CENELEC rules, it will be updated as needed and will be finally replaced by a future specification or standard. According to CENELEC rules, the existing national specifications are not required to be replaced by this Technical Report. They will remain in use as the basis for approval of vehicles in the respective countries. Where available, the national specifications are referenced in Annex A of this Technical Report. The two main parts of this Technical Report are: 1) the List of European track circuit equipment; 2) the National Annex. The contents of these two parts have been provided by railway infrastructure representatives. Not all EU countries have provided information and in some cases the information may be incomplete. In 4.5, the track circuits are classified into preferred and non-preferred types 1) with regard to their future use on interoperable lines. This definition provides an indication which types of track circuits are preferred for new signalling projects. In Annex A the interference limits and test specifications are defined within a template prepared by CENELEC, which is intended to ensure a large degree of common content and to facilitate comparisons between national specifications. The content of Annex A is based on existing national specifications. This Technical Report will remain informative until it is replaced by a specification. It may, however, be used as a basis for defining requirements, for example in improved national specifications. If the content is used in the TSI, the TSI document shall clearly define the consequences of the requirements. The vehicles have only to be made compatible with the track circuits used on the lines where they run, as defined in EN 50238. Normally an approval certificate will be restricted to these lines or countries.
