This SAE Standard covers two types of hose fabricated from textile reinforcement and synthetic rubber, assembled with end fittings for use in high-temperature automotive power steering applications as flexible connections within the temperature range of -40 to +150 degrees C (-40 to +302 degrees F) maximum and 10.3 MPa (1500 psi) maximum working pressure. These hoses are intended for use in applications where reduction in amplitude of pump pressure pulsations is required. Class A hose has a nominal OD of 19.84 mm (0.781 in). Class B hose is a lightweight hose with a nominal OD of 17.91 mm (0.705 in). This specification defines the minimum performance levels of a flexible connector in the hydraulic steering system to convey power steering fluid from the steering pump to the steering gear.

Hose assemblies shall be suitable for 1.72 MPa (250 psi) maximum working pressure with end fittings and 0.69 MPa (100 psi) maximum working pressure with user applied clamps.

This SAE Recommended Practice is intended for all vehicle hydraulic brake hoses. It is an accelerated test which is intended to the user with a method of comparing the ability of hydraulic brake hose designs to retard the ingress of moisture into brake fluid. This document specifies a laboratory performance requirement. ASTM D 1364 interlaboratory reproducibility and correlation of data have not been defined, nor has correlation been established between field vehicle brake fluid moisture content and data obtained by this document. The purpose of this recommended practice is to simulate in the laboratory the transmission of moisture into a brake hose.

This SAE Standard covers complete general and dimensional specifications for 37 degree flared and flareless types of hydraulic tube fittings and O-ring plugs. Also included are pipe fittings and adapter unions for use in conjunction with these tube fittings. These fittings are intended for general application in hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These fittings are capable of providing leak-proof, full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating at working pressures as specified in Table 1 for respective sections. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, the values shown in SAE J1065 should not be construed as a guaranteed minimum. For any application, it is recommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and fitting manufacturer to assure performance levels will be safe and satisfactory.

The hose shall be designed to minimize permeation of refrigerants and contamination of refrigerant passing there through and to be serviceable over a temperature range of -30 to 95 degrees C. Hose working pressures shall be at least 3.4 MPa and the minimun burst pressure shall be at least 5 times.

This SAE Information Report is intended to provide the hydraulic oil manufacturer and hydraulic equipment manufacturer with information that can be used predicting the relative impact that non petroleum based hydraulic oils may have on the hose elastomers in the existing system. This document contains the information necessary to perform the tests using standard elastomer formulations, representative of material used in hydraulic hose. The test methods used are defined within ASTM D471, standard test method for Rubber Property-Effect of Liquids. The physical properties measured, are volume swell, tensile strength, percent elongation, shore A hardness and load at 100% elongation. The properties were measured, after immersion, at 72 hours, 168 hours, 336 hours, 504 hours, 672 hours, 840 hours, and 1008 hours and the percent calculated as change from the unaged properties. The detail of the testing process is described in the following report.

This SAE Standard provides general and dimensional specifications for the most common hose fittings used in conjunction with hydraulic hoses specified in SAE J517 and utilized in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment. The general specifications contained in Sections 1 through 15 are applicable to all hydraulic hose fittings and supplement the detailed specifications for the 100R-series fittings contained in the later sections of this document. This document shall be utilized as a procurement document only to the extent agreed upon by the manufacturer and user. Refer to SAE J517 for specifications of hose and information on hose assemblies. SAE J1273 contains information on application factors affecting hose fittings, hose, and hose assemblies. THE RATED WORKING PRESSURE OF A HOSE ASSEMBLY COMPRISING SAE J516 FITTINGS AND SAE J517 HOSE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LOWER OF THE TWO WORKING PRESSURE RATED VALUES.

This SAE Standard measures the percent thermal efficiency of materials in sleeve form used to contain heat or insulate around a hot component. The percent thermal efficiency (%TE) is determined by measuring the power difference expended by the heat source (cartridge heater) with and without the test sleeve at the specified temperature.
