This SAE Standard provides general, dimensional and performance specifications for the most common hoses used in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment. The general specifications contained in Sections 1 through 12 are applicable to all hydraulic hoses and supplement the detailed specifications for the 100R-series hoses contained in the later sections of this document. This document shall be utilized as a procurement document only to the extent as agreed upon by the manufacturer and user. The maximum working pressure of a hose assembly comprising SAE J517 hose and hose connectors per SAE J516, SAE J518, SAE J1453, etc., shall not exceed the lower of the respective SAE maximum working pressure values. When using SAE J 517 hose for marine applications, see SAE J 1475, SAE J 1942 and SAE J 1942-1. The SAE J517 100R9, 100R10 and 100R11 hoses are discontinued due to lack of demand. For DOD orders see Appendix C. The SAEJ 517 100R1A, 100R2A, 100R2B and 100R 2BT are discontinued due to lack of demand. For DOD orders replace 100R1A with 100R1AT, replace 100R2A, 100R2B and 100R2BT with 100R2AT. The SAE J517 100R2AT maximum working pressures will be replaced by the type S maximum working pressures beginning with the year 2009, eliminating the need to label 100R2 as type S. The SAE J517 100R16 maximum working pressures will be replaced by the type S maximum working pressures with the year 2009, eliminating the need to label 100R16 as type S.

This SAE Standard provides general and dimensional specifications for the most common hose fittings used in conjunction with hydraulic hoses specified in SAE J517 and utilized in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment. The general specifications contained in Sections 1 through 15 are applicable to all hydraulic hose fittings and supplement the detailed specifications for the 100R-series fittings contained in the later sections of this document. This document shall be utilized as a procurement document only to the extent agreed upon by the manufacturer and user. Refer to SAE J517 for specifications of hose and information on hose assemblies. SAE J1273 contains information on application factors affecting hose fittings, hose, and hose assemblies. THE RATED WORKING PRESSURE OF A HOSE ASSEMBLY COMPRISING SAE J516 FITTINGS AND SAE J517 HOSE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LOWER OF THE TWO WORKING PRESSURE RATED VALUES.

This specification covers sub-critically annealed electric resistance welded and cold-drawn single-wall high strength low alloy steel tubing intended for use in hydraulic pressure lines and in other applications requiring tubing of a quality suitable for bending, flaring, cold forming, welding and brazing. The grade of material produced to this specification is of micro-alloy content and is considerably stronger and intended to service higher pressure applications using thinner walls than like sizes of the grades of material specified in SAE J525, SAE J2467 and SAE J2614. Due to the alloy content of the material, the forming characteristics of the finished tube are equal to or better, when compared to SAE J525, SAE J2467 and SAE J2614. Nominal reference working pressures for this tubing are listed in ISO 10763 and SAE J1065. Caution: When brazing or welding is used as a tube end joining method, the structural integrity of the tube material can potentially be compromised due to the degradation of the areas affected by the thermal effect applied to the tubing; therefore, the ISO 10763 and SAE J1065 nominal reference working pressures may not be applicable. Brazed and/or welded tube assembly configurations made to specific geometry and components bill of material in association with this material, may require qualification testing in accordance with ISO 19879 Test Methods for Hydraulic Fluid Power Connections. Cold forming the tube end configurations avoids this systemic testing by not compromising the tube material structural integrity.

This SAE Standard covers stress relieved electric resistance welded flash controlled single wall high strength low alloy steel tubing intended for use in high pressure hydraulic lines and in other applications requiring tubing of a quality suitable for bending, double flaring and cold forming. Material produced to this specification is not intended to be used for single flare applications due to the potential leak path that would be caused by the ID weld bead. The grade of material produced to this specification is of micro-alloy content and is considerably stronger and intended to service higher pressure applications using thinner walls than like sizes of the grades of material specified in SAE J356, SAE J2435 and SAE J2613. This SAE Recommended Practice defines the minimum functional requirements for quick connect couplings used for supply, return, and vapor/emission fuel system connections. This document also defines standard male tube end form dimensions, so as to guarantee interchangeability between all connector designs of the same male tube end form size. This document applies to automotive and light truck applications under the following conditions: a. Gasoline and diesel fuel delivery systems or their vapor venting or evaporative emission control systems; b. Operating pressure up to 500 kPa, 5 bar, (72 psig); c. Operating vacuum down to -50 kPa, -0.5 bar (-7.2 psi); d. Operating temperatures from -40 °C (-40 °F) to 115 °C (239 °F). Quick connect couplings function by joining the connector to a mating tube end form, then pulling back to assure a complete connection. The requirements stated in this document apply to new connectors in assembly operations unless otherwise indicated. For service operations, the mating tube should be lubricated with SAE 30-weight oil before re-connecting. Vehicle OEM fuel system specifications may impose additional requirements beyond the scope of this general SAE document. In those cases, the OEM specification takes precedence over this document.

This part of SAE J2337 specifies dimensions, design, and performance requirements for eight ports using a conical sealto insure leak proof performance with a design factor of 4 to 1.1.2 Field of ApplicationThese connectors are intended for general and hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products,where elastomeric seals are acceptable to overcome leakage and variations in assembly procedures. These connectorsare capable of providing leak proof full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating from 95 kPa vacuum to theworking pressures shown in Table 1. Since many factors influence the pressure at which hydraulic systems will or will notperform satisfactorily, these values should not be construed as guaranteed minimums. For any application, it isrecommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and manufacturer to ensure that therequired performance levels are met.

SAE J2552 provides limited, dimensional and general performance requirements for low pressure, field attachable,push-on hose and their mating hose fittings. The intended application is for fluid and pneumatic power used withpetroleum base hydraulic fluids, lube oils, water glycols and air, within the temperature ranges. The maximum working pressure is 1.7 MPa. For air applications the maximum working pressure is at 0.7 MPa.Hose and hose fittings are manufactured within certain dimensions with tolerance ranges in order to provide the propergripping and sealing. SAE J2552 hose from one manufacturer may not be compatible with SAE J2552 hose fittingssupplied by another manufacturer. It is the responsibility of the fabricator to always follow the manufacturers’ instructionsfor proper preparation and fabrication of hose assemblies. The fabricator shall consult the manufacturers’ writtenassembly instructions or the manufacturers directly before intermixing hose and hose fittings from two manufacturers.Hose assemblies made to this standard shall not be used in dynamic motion, vibrating or impulsing applications, nor for brake hoses or fuel lines.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes two-dimensional, 95th percentile truck driver, side view, seated shin-knee contours for both the accelerator operating leg and the clutch operating leg for horizontally adjustable seats. There is one contour for the clutch shin-knee and one contour for the accelerator shin-knee. There are three locating equations for each curve to accommodate male-to-female ratios of 50:50, 75:25 and 90:10 to 95:5.
