This part of IEC 60404 defines the grades of cold-rolled grain-oriented electrical steel strip and sheet in nominal thicknesses of 0,23 mm, 0,27 mm, 0,30 mm and 0,35 mm. In particular, it gives general requirements, magnetic properties, geometric characteristics, tolerances and technological characteristics, as well as inspection procedures. This standard applies to Goss textured grain-oriented electrical steel strip and sheet supplied in the final annealed condition in sheets or coils, and intended for the construction of magnetic circuits. The grades are grouped into two classes: - conventional grades; - high permeability grades. They correspond to Class C.22 of IEC 60404-1.

1.1 This specification covers commonly used wrought nickel-iron soft magnetic alloys produced or supplied expressly for use in magnetic cores and other parts requiring high magnetic permeability, high electrical resistivity, low coercive field strength, and low core loss. 1.2 This specification covers materials supplied by a producer or converter to the form and physical condition desired for fabrication into parts that will later be given a final heat treatment to achieve the desired magnetic characteristics. It covers materials supplied in the form of forging billet; hot-rolled plate, strip, and bar; cold-finished bar; cold-rolled and annealed sheet and strip; shaped bar and wire; and wire. 1.2.1 This specification does not cover either powder metallurgically produced or cast parts. 1.2.2 This specification lists requirements for strip products having isotropic or semi-isotropic magnetic properties but does not include requirements for anisotropic or square hysteresis loop alloys or alloys processed to yield flattened hysteresis loops by use of heat treatments in an applied magnetic field. 1.2.3 This specification does not cover alloys modified by the addition of elements such as sulfur and selenium to enhance machinability. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

This part of IEC 404 specifies the methods used for determining the density, resistivity and stacking factor of electrical steel sheet and strip. These quantities are necessary to establish the magnetic characteristics of the material. In particular, the density is necessary to allow specified values of the flux density to be set without knowing the thickness of the test specimen. For the determination of the density, the immersion method was earlier considered to be a fundamental method for use in cases of arbitration. However, experience has shown that this method is very difficult to use in the case of sheet samples with a relatively large surface area. This method is therefore not included. It is described in ISO 2738 and ISO 1183.

This European Standard specifies cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel sheet and strip in nominal thicknesses of 0,35 mm, 0,50 mm, 0,65 mm and 1,00 mm. In particular, it specifies general requirements, the magnetic properties, geometric characteristics and tolerances, technological characteristics as well as the inspection procedure. This European Standard applies to materials supplied in the fully annealed condition intended for the construction of magnetic circuits. It does not apply to semi-processed material. These magnetic materials correspond to C.2.3.2.1 of IEC 60404-1:2000.

This part of IEC 60404 specifles the general requirements,magnetic properties,geometric characteristics and tolerances as well inspection procedures for pure iron,silicon-iron,nickel-iron and cpbalt-iron.The materials are in the form of bar,billet,sheet,strip or wire.The alloys covered correspond to those defined by classes A,C1,C2,E1to E4 and F1 to F3 in IEC 60404-1. Magnetic materials used primarily for relays,pure iron and steel products,classified only by coercivity,are covered in IEC 60404-8-10.IEC 60404-8-10 is less restrictive in terms of magnetic properties than the pure iron material (class A)and the silicon-iron alloys(classes C21 and C22)specified in this standard,but it gives more comprehensive dimensional tolerances. Non-oriented and oriented silicon steels(C21 and C22)for industrial power frequency applications,classified by specific total loss,are covered in IEC 60404-8-2,IEC 60404-8-4 and IEC 60404-8-7. Non-oriented and oriented thin magnetic materials for use at medium frequencies,classified by specific total loss,are covered in IEC 60404-8-8

1.1 This specification covers the detailed requirements to which flat-rolled nonoriented fully processed electrical steel shall conform.1.2 This steel is produced to specified maximum core-loss values and is intended primarily for commercial power frequency (50- and 60-Hz) applications in magnetic devices. Desirable core-loss and permeability characteristics are developed during mill processing, so additional heat treatment by the user is usually not necessary.1.3 These nonoriented fully processed electrical steels are low-carbon, silicon-iron, or silicon-aluminum-iron alloys containing up to about 3.5 % silicon and a small amount of aluminum. 1.4 The values stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) units are to be regarded as standard.
