The document specifies safety requirements for probe assemblies for (electrical) measurement and test. It applies to hand-held and hand-manipulated probe assemblies of the types described below, and related accessories which are intended for professional, industrial process, and educational use. These probe assemblies are for use in the interface between an electrical phenomenon and test or measurement equipment. They may be fixed to the equipment or be detachable accessories for the equipment. a) Low-voltage and high-voltage, non-attenuating probe assemblies (type A). Non-attenuating probe assemblies that are rated for direct connection to voltages exceeding 33 V r.m.s. or 46,7 V peak or 70 V d.c., but not exceeding 63 kV. They do not incorporate active components, nor are they intended to provide a voltage divider function or a signal conditioning function, but they may contain passive non-attenuating components such as fuses. b) High-voltage attenuating or divider probe assemblies (type B). Attenuating or divider probe assemblies that are rated for direct connection to secondary voltages exceeding 1 kV but not exceeding 63 kV. The divider function may be carried out wholly within the probe assemblies, or partly within the test or measurement equipment to be used with the probe assemblies. c) Low-voltage attenuating or divider probe assemblies (type C). Attenuating, divider or other signal conditioning probe assemblies for direct connection to voltages exceeding 33 V r.m.s or 46,7 V peak or 70 V d.c., but not exceeding 1 kV r.m.s. or 1,5 kV d.c. The signal conditioning function may be carried out wholly within the probe assemblies, or partly within the test or measurement equipment intended to be used with the probe assemblies. This standard does not cover a) reliable function, performance or other properties of the probe assembly; b) effectiveness of transport packaging; c) servicing (repair); d) protection of servicing (repair) personnel.

In addition to the requirements of IEC 61326-1, this part of IEC 61326 treats the particular features for EMC testing of field devices with interfaces according to IEC 61784-1, CP 3/2. This part of IEC 61326 covers only the field-bus interface of the equipment. NOTE The other functions of the equipment are covered by other parts of the IEC 61326 series. This part of IEC 61326 refers only to field devices intended for use in process control and process measuring. For interface operation and the interface parameters, this part of IEC 61326 is in accordance with IEC 61784-1, CP 3/2. That standard specifies a set of protocol specific communication profiles based on the IEC 61158 series. The manufacturer specifies the environment for which the product is intended to be used and/or selects the appropriate test level specifications of IEC 61326-1.

This part of IEC 60706 examines the maintainability requirements and related design and use parameter, and discusses some activities necessary to achieve the required maintainability characteristics and their relationship to planning of maintenance. It describes the general approach in reaching these objectives and shows how maintainability characteristics should be specified in a requirements document or contract. It is not intended to be a complete guide on how to specify or to contract for maintainability. Its purpose is to define the range of considerations when maintainability characteristics are included as requirements for the development or the acquisition of an item. The standard goes on to describe maintainability studies in the preliminary and detailed design phases and their relationships to other maintainability and maintenance support tasks, described in associated standards. Maintainability considerations in design reviews are also included. It is intended that customers acquiring items of equipment will find this standard useful in assisting them to define their maintainability objectives and associated maintainability programmes.

This part of IEC 60706 describes the various aspects of verification necessary to ensure that the specified maintainability requirements of an item have been met and provides suitable procedures and test methods. While maintainability verification as such should be a mandatory part of any maintainability programme (see IEC 60300-3-10), each individual case requires appropriate methods to be carefully selected in order to ensure overall costeffectiveness. This standard also addresses the collection, analysis and presentation of maintainability related data, which may be required during, and at the completion of, design and during item production and operation.

In addition to the requirements of IEC 61326-1, this part of IEC 61326 specifies more detailed test configurations, operational conditions and performance criteria for transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning. This standard applies only to transducers characterized by their ability to transform, with the aid of an auxiliary energy source, a non-electric quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal, and to output the signal at one or more ports. This standard includes transducers for electrochemical and biological measured quantities. The transducers covered by this standard may be powered by a.c. or d.c. voltage and/or by battery or with internal power supply. Transducers referred to by this standard comprise at least the following items (see Figures 101 and 102): – one or more elements for transforming a non-electrical input quantity to an electrical quantity; – a transmission link for transferral of the electrical quantity to a component for signal conditioning; – a unit for signal conditioning that converts the electrical quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal; – an enclosure for enclosing the above-stated components fully or in parts. Transducers referred to by this standard may also have the following items (see Figures 101 and 102): – a communication and control unit; – a display unit; – control elements such as keys, buttons, switches, etc.; – transducer output signals (for example, switch outputs, alarm outputs) which are clearly assigned to the input signal(s); – transducers with signal conditioning which may be integrated or remote. The manufacturer specifies the environment for which the product is intended to be used and utilizes the corresponding test levels of IEC 61326-1. Additional requirements and exceptions for specific types of transducers are given in the annexes to this standard.

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following: This part of IEC 61496 specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) designed specifically to detect persons as part of a safety-related system, employing active opto-electronic protective devices (AOPDs) for the sensing function. Special attention is directed to features which ensure that an appropriate safety-related performance is achieved. An ESPE may include optional safety-related functions, the requirements for which are given in Annex A of IEC 61946-1 and of this part. This part does not specify the dimensions or configurations of the detection zone and its disposition in relation to hazardous parts for any particular application, nor what constitutes a hazardous state of any machine. It is restricted to the functioning of the ESPE and how it interfaces with the machine. Excluded from this part are AOPDs employing radiation at wavelengths outside the range 400 nm to 1500 nm. This part may be relevant to applications other than those for the protection of persons, for example, the protection of machinery or products from mechanical damage. In those applications, additional requirements may be necessary, for example, when the materials that are to be recognized by the sensing function have different properties from those of persons. This part does not deal with EMC emission requirements.
