The overall thickness or caliper of resilient flooring is a basic physical property. This test method minimizes this type of measuring error and still retains the convenience and speed of measurement. Heat buildup in PVC exterior building products due to absorption of the energy from the sun may lead to distortion problems. Heat buildup is affected by the color, emittance, absorptance, and reflectance of a product. Generally, the darker the color of the product, the more energy is absorbed and the greater is the heat buildup. However, even with the same apparent color, the heat buildup may vary due to the specific pigment system involved. The greatest heat buildup generally occurs in the color black containing carbon black pigment. The black control sample used in this test method contains 2.5 parts of furnace black per 100 parts of PVC suspension resin. The maximum temperature rise above ambient temperature for this black is 90°F (50°C) for a 45° or horizontal surface when the sun is perpendicular to the surface and 74°F (41°C) for a vertical surface assuming that the measurements were done on a cloudless day with no wind and heavy insulation on the back of the specimen. See Appendix X1. This test method allows the measurement of the temperature rise under a specific type heat lamp, relative to that of a black reference surface, thus predicting the heat buildup due to the sun''s energy. The test method allows prediction of heat buildup of various colors or pigment systems, or both. This test method gives a relative heat buildup compared to black under certain defined severe conditions but does not predict actual application temperatures of the product. These will also depend on air temperature, incident angle of the sun, clouds, wind velocity, insulation, installation behind glass, etc. 1.1 This test method covers prediction of the heat buildup in rigid and flexible PVC building products above ambient air temperature, relative to black, which occurs due to absorption of the sun''s energy. Note 18212;This test method is expected to be applicable to all types of colored plastics. The responsible subcommittee intends to broaden the scope beyond PVC when data on other materials is submitted for review. 1.1 This specification covers polyolefin-based plastic lumber products for use as exterior residential decking boards. 1.2 Plastic lumber products are currently made predominantly with recycled polyolefin plastics (in particular high-density polyethylene) where the products are more or less non-homogenous in the cross-section. However, this specification is also potentially applicable to similar manufactured plastic products made from other plastic and plastic composite materials that have non-homogenous cross-sections. 1.3 This specification details a procedure to calculate recommended span lengths for spacing of support joists. This procedure was developed using experimental data from a typical unreinforced plastic lumber made predominantly from recycled high-density polyethylene. The methodology to develop span lengths for other types and compositions of plastic lumber is detailed in Appendix X1 of this standard. 1.4 The values are stated in inch-pound units, as these are currently the most common units used by the construction industry. Equivalent SI units are indicated in parentheses. This European Standard specifies the health and safety requirements for unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) profiles and cellular unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-UE) profiles for interior and exterior wall and ceiling finishes. It also specifies methods for the evaluation of conformity of the products to the requirements, and includes requirements for their marking. The products are intended for use as wall and ceiling finishes for internal and external applications according to the manufacturer's specifications, which may include specifications for the fixings. Profiles for the management of electrical power cables, communication cables and power track systems used for the distribution of electrical power, roofline products (fascia and soffit) including guttering, internal trim profiles including window boards and profiles for windows or doors are not covered by this European Standard.1)

This part of BS 4592 specifies requirements for the design, manufacture, supply and installation of glass reinforced plastics (GRP) moulded open mesh gratings intended for industrial flooring, walkways and stair treads. It is not applicable where access to machinery is required, in which case the requirements of BS EN ISO 14122 apply. NOTE For the common requirements for industrial flooring and stair treads, see BS 4592-0. In addition to the definitive requirements, this standard also requires the items detailed in BS 4592-0:2006, Clause 4 to be documented. For compliance with this standard, both the definitive requirements and the documented items have to be satisfied.

This part of BS 8204 gives recommendations for the design and installation of in situ synthetic resin flooring, based on liquid synthetic resin binders in which curing takes place by chemical reaction of the resin components, used internally in buildings. The synthetic resin floorings are bonded to direct finished concrete slabs, polymer-modified cementitious or fine concrete screeds and to existing concrete floors. Annex A gives recommendations for the design and installation of resin terrazzo flooring. Synthetic resin floorings applied to other materials such as timber or metal are not covered by this code of practice. The installation of resilient sports surfacings based on synthetic resins is not covered by this code of practice.
